Michelin: 205/45/17 - 225/50/17

I've been having a bear of a time finding replacement tires for my car. I need 205/45/17 and 225/50/17, would like non RFT Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

The 4S is not available.

I see Michelin makes a PS4, but it's really hard to find.

A local shop can theorhetically get a PS4 Zero Pressure, a run flat.
https://www.townfairtire.com/brand/t...~50r17w/25045/

But this is not indicated on Michelin's website, which makes no mention of a Zero Pressure version.
https://www.michelinman.com/tires/pi...t-sport-4.html

Anyone use these tires? Or have any advice? I don't want to change wheel size, I like 17s.

First off, I think you mean "205/50/17 and 225/45/17", which were a stock size. That said, I swapped to 215/45-17 x 225/45-17 Michelin PSS when I had 88 miles on the ODO and never looked back. They never had a 205/50-17 in a PSS that I know of. They do have the 215/45-17 in a 4S, so why not go with those in the front and the 225/45-17 4S in the rear?

Thanks, yes I meant 205/50/17. So it seems the wider fronts don't bother you at all? How's turn in?

I see your pics here: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1570551

Looks good!

Turn in was fine. A little slower but it's going to feel that way anyway with non-runflats, at least the circa 2013 RFs. They had very stiff side walls.

M3 FSB brought back the (good) sharpness but it was fine without.

Ok. Just read your build thread - I can't believe I haven't seen it before. Our cars are almost the same age. But yours is much more modded than mine.

I understand that the bushings should be changed first for optimal results and have the M3 RSFB coming this week. Install happening next week.

I think I will do the PS4S, I wanted those but since the narrower front wasn't available I was searching for something else.

No. I am doing 215/45-17 x 225/45-17.

PS4S

Good choice on the PS4S. PSS/PS4S are my favorite tires of all time, and I've been through a lot of sports car tires.

I'm excited. The car was built 7 years ago yesterday (also my birthday). So, it's a bit late but with the M3 rear subframe bushings being installed today and the PS4S going in later this week or next week, it should drive like a new car!

17inch stock wheels

Piggybacking this post....

My 2011 128i is in need of new tires and it's on the stock 205/50-17 squared from factory. How do I know how wide I can go? I'm seeing I can go staggered with 225 in the rear, but I see that it makes the handling a bit worse. I use the car as a daily and non runflat will be crucial bc of the ride quality.

I want to go wider than 205, so can I go maybe 215 or 225 all around? Would there be any modding to anything to make that happen? Any recommended tires? I know a good bit about cars but I haven't had to put tires on one yet so it's all new to me.

If you're keeping your current wheels and they are rated to take a 225 tire, that's what you want to do IMO. Handling will improve, understeer will decrease, better ride, better look. I've been through a couple of sets of square 225's (although on 18' wheels) and find they suit the power and weight of our cars very nicely. For tires, buy the best you can afford. This is not where you want to save money. Read Tire Rack reviews for the the class of tire you want. I'm very happy with my Michelin PS4S but there are lots of quality tires out there.

How do I know if my wheels are going to support the 225s? These are my wheels in the link. I'm on mobile so I'm putting various links because I can't see them properly sorry
