Is MHD worth the investment over the Cobb platform? I know Cobb is a bit outdated, but in terms of safety and daily drive-ability, etc?

FWIW, I used and tuned with Cobb for several years on my last platform- Mazdaspeed. Up until a year ago Cobb was the best of breed. I assume it was that way here too. To be honest I was happy to get away from Cobb considering their lack of dev and all the issues now with getting the tuning software.

I've been MHD tuned with just Off The Shelf (OTS) maps for several months now and find that MHD OTS maps are a significant step up from Cobbs OTS maps. I suspect many folks will be perfectly content with the MHD OTS maps, as opposed to the Cobb versions which were really only good as a rough starting point.

Daily driving is smooth as or smoother than my PPK1 was. It's ever so slightly richer which is a good thing and eliminated random timing reduction issues the PPK suffered. So, both smoother and safer.

Using the android device of your choice is much more cost effective than buying a dedicated device, and the licensing is linked between your VIN and your google account so you can have multiple android devices like phone and tablet. This lets you do heavy lifting stuff like flashing maps etc on your tablet while still being able to grab a log on the fly with your phone any time you want.

Speaking of logging, MHD is much better than Cobb. High resolution (data points per second) and auto start logging are two major benefits.

And, since I'm starting to sound like the glossy literature for MHD, I'll wrap up with mentioning that MHD is actively developing and updating. Maps, software features etc are all steady improving- they just added trans temp to the logging list for example.

Pricing is better too...

Sounds like a great platform to work with. I dont plan on going much passed stage 1, so as long as its smooth and safe, those are my main concerns.

Wow...the smooth curve is what Im after mostly. Im not much of a numbers chaser as I would prefer the car to run well and healthy than just balls out all the time. Those graphs look great and look to be what Im after. I have the cobb tune now but Im totally considering selling it for the sake of the MHD flash

I managed to get a Sony Xperia from a friend for nothing which works fine, however I think a great sticky would be a list of cheap (likely prepaid) android devices that support the app and USB OTG which I was having a ton of trouble finding. I know there has to be some out there.
