How were you driving when the warning came on? Highway cruising, WOT, on the track? Did the car behave or sound different just before the warning?

For a start, check the threads referenced sub issues #5 (HPFP issue) and #6 (charge pipe issue) of the 1M issues log:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...27&postcount=1

Maybe also take a look at the following threads:
http://www.dailyfinance.com/2010/07/...and-the-compa/ (pointing out the possibility of a HPFP issue)
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=659623 (pointing out the possibility of a tune issue)

Good luck in getting rid of the gremlin.

90% sure you either cracked your charge pipe or the charge pipe popped off the throttle body. After the car was restarted, did the throttle sound deeper, and did it feel like you had zero boost? If so, that's likely the issue. If you find the charge pipe is okay, check the FMIC connections and make sure the diverter valves are still plugged in. I've had all three connections come loose under full boost on different occasions. If you can check your codes, you will likely see the code 30FF.

i have the er chargepipe so i do not think that would crack. i also have a forge intercooler. the car was normal after restart, although i did not drive it hard. i had it towed to bmw service.

Well I'm sure the dealer will figure it out. Ian is right that the ER charge pipe is sometimes a bit tricky to get sealed properly. When I first installed mine, I thought it was seated properly. There was no movement in the charge pipe when installed. However when I went to test it out, I would start to loose boost over 10psi. I removed it and replaced the o-ring. Then I used a thin film of grease on the outside of the throttle body to make sure the charge pipe slid on easily and fit right up against the throttle body's lip. This solved the problem for me. Good luck and let us know what they discover. There's been a few post recently of similar events happening on the 1M.

If it was a high altitude nuclear blast, it could be very serious.

I had an ER charge pipe and it popped off connection with the intercooler. After that power was gone. The ER pipe never really fit that well and I ended up reinstalling the stock CP. I like the sound that the stock CP generates better with resonator anyway. No problems since then.

when i turned off the car and restart power was back. if the cp had popped off of the intercooler the power would not have come back after restarting the car, i think.

Well this happened to me today!!! How ironic I was on my way to the dealer to buy new wiper blades for the car... Was in the fast lane doing 70 mph then all of a sudden it just seamed to die..... Told the guys in the service department and they said they could have a look for me if I could wait.... So half an hour later they came and said it brought up a fault code of "knock sensor" ... They have ordered the 2 but on back order...... So must be a few going wrong.. He said its ok to drive in the meen time so alls good... And they fitted my wiper blades for free.....
