Porsche sells most of their cars at a higher price point than does BMW, and sells way fewer units. I would assume that on a unit basis, Porsche sports cars are considerably more profitable to make and sell than are BMWs. At this point, I'd imagine that both automakers are making and selling more SUVs and crossover vehicles than sedans and sports cars. Porsche's business model allows them to cater a bit more to the odd enthusiast, with such things as manual transmissions, whereas BMW is just using their M-label to sell SUVs and other non-M-worthy vehicles, so they need to sell a few "real" M-cars to retain the mystic that they then plaster all over their other, much more profitable, lines. From a business perspective, this all makes sense. From an enthusiast perspective, what BMW is doing doesn't make a lot of sense, and the enthusiasts are going to go elsewhere (and many have done so already).

I had the same feeling in Porsche 911 T (but I only test driven T and 4S). Can't wait to buy one (waiting for kids to grow up a little).

As for the M2C, the only thing it technically has going for it is the wheelbase. An updated F80 is not much heavier at all and a better buy imo. The M2C got fat, and does not get CF/weight drop options the other F8x got unless you pay out of your arse for a non-factory fitted option. |

My 1993 325i 5M was similarly a great, drivers car, but which didn't have much more power than a current day Prius, if that means anything, with a 0-60 time that would embarrass a current Toyota owner. It's a shame that now, in our era, the only glimpse of a drivers car that this manufacturer now offers, has an "M" attached to the designation. Pretty soon, even that will disappear. Time to look at a Miata.

If the used price vector between the 135i and 1M was only around $10k, like when they were new, the 1M would be a no-brainer to me. At more than 3x the cost, not so much, unless you’re buying the car to collect or you want to have an M car regardless...or you just have fu money and the price doesn’t matter.
