Hey Guys,
I was reading the manual on this...have something to try. Deactivate the seat memory function (see page 41 of manual). I am wondering if it is related to the programming of memory seats and how they are "called up" |

It may have nothing to do with it but on power seats they are related at least from a s/w perspective. The manual is cryptic on this but on my reading it seemed worth checking out. |

Just got off the phone with bmw....did you guys know that bmw advises against tinting all together? Btw, they said regardless of tint the CA should work when you are near the car, tint would have no effect on that. But yeah, ceramic or otherwise, Bmw advises against tint altogether. They said the only sacrifice would be some range with your remote, other than that, everything should still work.

No clue, I've been doing some HARDCORE research, and tint, regardless of ceramic or metallic or other, has nothing to do with CA not working. It appears to be a problem with the main amp or something. So far, every case of people's CA not working, that resolved the issue. My dealer said, regardless of tint, CA should work even with the key in my pocket. The range that I can use my FOB will shorten, but it should work regardless. So, tint will NEVER cause CA to be erratic. Tint away amigo

I was messing with it this evening, and it seemed to work/not work depending on the orientation of the Fob in my pocket. This is an intriguing, albeit PITA mystery. I hope somebody can get some resolution as to why this is happening, cuz I'm not taking the tint off my ride.

+123012903 on that man. The same thing with mine, depending on the location of the key in my pocket it works/ doesnt work, however this may be due to the antenna being faulty and going in and out while you stand there. I had my key in my hand earlier and it wouldnt lock or unlock. The passenger side still has a 99% correct functionality. So, I'm wondering if its the door and trunk mechanisms, however I think it is the antenna. Here is a post from someone who was having the EXACT same problems and had it fixed.

Broken CA here too.
My CA worked about 90% of the time when I first got it 3 weeks ago. I tinted the car with 3M CS non-metallic film (not ceramic) 10 days ago. Ever since then the CA features died within a day. The car started with the dash button when I left the tint shop, but the next day all CA was dead. The 1 was at the dealer a few days last week. They initially could not figure it out. Then they found a door sensor that was wet and replaced it. It still didn't work. The found a second sensor that was also wet. That one was not in stock and is on order. I have my car back minus CA. They never once mentioned anything about my tint. The part should be in this week. I'll keep you guys posted. If you have CA, I would hold off for now. |

Damn. At this point the window tint is starting to corrolate too much to simply ignore. I'm wondering if there's something going on during the tint installation that's creating the issue. Are there any people having this issue who don't have window tint? I guess the next question would be "How many people own these cars and don't have tinted windows?" for it to make any difference though. It was mentioned earlier in the thread, and I'm now wondering if they're wetting the inside of the windows enough while doing the tint to damage the sensor, but if that's the case BMW has an issue with the design. Initially it would seem that wouldn't have anything to do with the trunk opening, but it's possible the reciever is sharing a channel for the drivers door and trunk, and a shorted antenna on the drivers side causes poor recieption on the trunk as well. Personally I'm pretty certain the tint itself isn't the problem, but I'm not so sure about the actual installation. I love a good mystery! As soon as I get my car I'm going to see if I can read the RFID tags with some of the industrial RFID equipment I have at the office. If that's the case I'll get my windows tinted right away and maybe I can get to the bottom of it myself if BMW hasn't figured it out by then. I'm certainly not going to be happy about not being able to tint my windows because of something that's supposed to make life easier! |

That has been my theory this whole time, I'm thinking when they squeegie the water seeps through, but as stated, this should be a waterproof part as the window may be down when it starts to rain, etc etc.
Rektek, did you have to pay for the sensors? or were they covered under warranty? |

Just a thought on the tint issue. I have been waiting to tint since the "problems" started. I believe the tint installers have to "fake out" the doors to make them think they are closed to keep the side windows up during the application. I wonder if an extended period of having the doors open with the windows forced up could have something to do with the CA issue?
