Rattle from moon roof
Anybody else get an occassional rattle sound from the moon roof area? It only occurs once in a while and I can not determine what is causing it yet.

I do. Up, down or closed... Takes a pretty rough road surface for it to appear, like train tracks or similar.

I have the same problem. My dealer says that it is due to car wash soap drying out the lubrication in the mechanism. I asked him if I should simply stop washing my car for the rest of its life. He simply shrugged. I wasn't impressed.
Great drive - stupid niggles.

I get it, but only when it's tilted. Open, closed, or partially open I don't have it at all.

I have it too! I HATE rattles! i removed the roof light fixture and did some investigating. I used a ruler to see if I can stop the noise. I was successful, however, I can not localized the two pieces of material that are making contact. What I did do is unhooked both sides of the brace which created a larger gap between the liner and the roof. Now I only hear it over larger bumps.

The Roof rattle
I know several of us have developed this "creak" "rattle"...whatever you want to call it in the roof around the sunroof passenger side. Mine is getting worse and seemed to start when the body flexed in a turn or over rough surfaces. Has anyone had a successful fix done at the dealership or fixed it themselves? It keeps getting described but I don't think I've read about a definitive fix. It's the only rattle I have...SO FAR....and my OCD wants it stopped. Help.
Thanks guys. |

I have the exact rattle you're all describing, worst in Tilt, and also present with the cover open (with glass open or closed). I've found that pushing on the ceiling light/glass break sensor seems to mute the subtle rattle. The Tilt rattle is a bit louder. The dealership "lubricated" is, which to me means "did nothing," Tilt rattle is still there but less apparent.
It's really pissing me off, and my C-Pillar (cold weather) rattle is not four-seasons. Agree, great drive, but too many diddles. I'll be taking apart the glass break sensor shortly to explore. tracking threat for fix |
