Auto tranny, worth any mods?
I got an auto for my own reasons (my wife says I can build a racecar once we get a garage if I have a regular DD fro a while).
so the question is, are there any mods for sulev auto worth doing? Ive already got H&R sways going in this week... im not sure if there are any other mods that may make me happier with the overall performance, I think the sways wil balance the chassis a bit more, i got DEPOs, they look better with the blacked out grills. Im considering the camber adjustment up front with the DIY to remove the pins. Other than that im thinking it might be a waste to dig into engine mods considering the GM6auto is in the way... but it is comfy as a DD. |

Good choice on the sways
Look into bmw perf suspention or eibach kit AA tune - people with autos say good things about the tune Air box/air intake- at the minimum a charcoal filter delete

Most people with auto's don't tend to be into modding. with that said, my friend has an auto 2011 and she's been modding hers slowly but surely. I assume the auto tranny can hold power from headers/disa manifold/tune, but again i'm not quite sure if it's ever been done.
Regardless of that, feel free to mod to your hearts content. I drove her car and while I'm not a fan of letting it shift for me, the handling is the same and can be truly appreciated in auto and a 6MT.

You can check my sig for the mods I've done to my auto. I think the power box works well with the auto cause it seems to hold the gear longer rather than up shift at 1500 rpm in daily driving. I would do everything over again. I love the way it handles.

i don't think there are specific auto tranny mods except for BMS power box that will make the pedals less laggy

I got the AA tune, and what a difference it made, not just throttle responds but in the power delivery between 2k and 4k, I think it adds abut 10-15hp. I also used the auto to 100% as a manual, once you get used to it, the only thing missing is the 3rd pedal, upshifting is fairly quick, compared to other automatics.
I also added a different shifter knop, the illuminated Bimmian, adds new modern BMW look to the car. (did I mention I have mine for sale, as I sold the car ;-) ) Anyway, I can only recommend getting the AA tune, well worth it.

Having had a manual trans all my life, things change. After haveing surgery on my left knee, I now have a auto. I love manual but the auto doesn't change my mind about modding, how I drive (fast) or love of cars. Now if I only can stop slaping my shifter in neutral and stop pushing the non-clutch pedal.................

Performance exhaust is a good choice. Not much so for the 3 hp, but for the sweet intoxicating sound.....
