It makes my skin crawl when people say it will destroy M3 sales. I remember hearing the same thing when the 1 series was coming out. Watch out 3 series. Yeah, right.

1 series vs 3 series is not a good comparison and just like you I do not support that.

However, M cars are enthusiast level cars, they are not mainstream cars, and add to that M1s potential against M3, it may hurt m3..

Too bad the RS5 will be a NA V8... It's sure as hell going to be a nice car though. If it was a TT V6 or TT V8 I'd have to jump from the M1 ship.

Who knows if it will even come to the US... oh well, back to the orig. topic.

The RS5 is in a totally different class than M1 - probably similar in many ways (including size, weight and price) to the M6.

It's only slightly bigger than the 1 series. It actually reminds me of a slightly elongated 135 with lines that flow a little better. Of course it weighs more, but styling it reminds me more of a 1 series than a 6 series.

At the end of the day they might have a larger idea what would sell on this end of the price-range. Look at their sales by volume compared with the other luxury competition in the U.S.
Actually, isn't the flagship car the 760i; you know, being that it is the fastest, most luxurious, most expensive car that wears a BMW badge right now.

BMW flagship is the 7 series .

I have looked through all the post that Scott has posted and in other forums. He is here on the forums because it is his job. There are more than one Scott and everything he said I would think it is as true as BMW wants us to believe.

Here is another article after detriot
http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/b...0120-mkh1.html

There are multiple sources that says it is going to happen, so I guess either or, BMW is there to lead us to believe one thing or the other.

The only thing that is strange is BMW is at Geneva without a major concept car or announcement which was strange, but IIRC they always never list the M cars, but announce and show it on the first press day. So, the M1 not announced early makes me think that it is not going to be there at all.

new smilie needed?

I think that the powers that be need to add a new smilie to the list.....a smilie burned in effigy......or a tarred and feathered smilie.
Scott,which do you prefer?

I highly doubt the 1 series M will destroy the M3's sale. Other than that I am a supporter of it not being called the M1 but variations such as 1M or 1XXM etc. I do agree that it should out perform the M3 in every way perhaps except in straights because of the more power in a M3.

Well...yeah. Your deduction is exactly correct. My issue w/ an M1 was always, are they gonna do enough to warrant a new badge. And w/ everything that had been tossed about I didn't feel that they would. So having said that, why on earth would I 'spend to upgrade' on something that wasn't much of an upgrade. But congrats on connecting the dots.

It makes more sense since BMW is making an is version on the Z4 and the 335.

135is, 335is, z4-35is

The performance of an M1 would most definitely butt heads with the M3. ...and there is nothing wrong with that.

all bmw is doing is get us all worked up to create hype on a product we don't even truly know exists. Honestly, I'm sick of hearing about it. tons of companies have shown concept cars at geneva... it would have made sense to release a mock up of the ''M1'' ''1M'' or ''135IS''. I don't care what you call it, just show us something official !!!

"Different publications considering above mentioned spy shots to be early mules of the next generation 1 series."

So no M1 on the current one series? do we have to wait until the redesigned one coupe?

This makes some sense. But I am still hopeful for a M1 soon.

Just for the record, I'm convinced that we'll see an E82 M1. I made that list with pros and cons so everybody can make their own opinion.

Best regards,
