Why do some 135i exhauts fit 125i while some others do?

I've been looking to purchased a dual tip exhaust. And after spending a few days researching (for ones other than BMWP), it seems that almost every company's dual tip exhaust do not fit the 125i or 128i at all. However their quads all fit the 125i?

I don't know much about installation of exhausts etc so I thought I'd ask why do these dual tip exhausts such as the Hartge one, doesn't fit our 125/128i? While the Hartge quad tip does? =/

I just find it unfair that 125/128i is not getting enough love and attention!

I may be wrong, but aren't exhaust for turbos designed differently than exhaust for NA cars? that may be why.

The "issue" is this: the 1 series is a much much smaller market then let's say the 3 series so obviously less parts are being made for the 1ers. Now if we understand that, then understand that even fewer of the 1er owners modify their cars (there are other owners outside of 1addicts lol) and third, those that do modify, even fewer own 128s. Now as to why the 135 exhausts don't fit the 128, well its actually pretty simple, the diameter of the piping for the exhaust is different, by quite a bit. GK21 was right in saying that because of the turbos, the exhaust is designed differently. In fact, the 128 exhaust is a 1 piece from the downpipes back whereas the 135 is two pieces (midpipes and muffler) which is why there aren't any 128 midpipe options unless you go custom. As to why some quad exhausts fit both, it may be because the companies feel that those 128 owners that decide to upgrade their exhausts would rather just get a quad (seeing as many have the sport bumper allowing them to change to a quad diffuser sold by the same company) just my .02 on the matter.

Ah okay =/

That's a shame. I guess if this is the case, sticking to the BMW performance exhaust will be my best bet. Just find the tips not very appealing. Maybe I'll just get custom tips for it!

Thanks for all the help, although disappointing, always good to know more

if the 125i has the same exhaust setup as the 128i, I would hold out as long as possible, the bmwp exhaust is great, but there are a few companies coming out with exhausts for the 128i. I am lucky enough to be able to receive a prototype of one of these in the next month (hopefully, they said by the end of april *fingers crossed*) and it should be what most of us 128ers are looking for out of an aftermarket exhaust.

Oh serious? I'm pretty sure they're the same, I'll look into it. Are these European or American companies that are coming out with exhausts?

That's awesome news. I shall hold out for a little while longer

Just installed the US Spec BMWPE to my 125i and it's a perfect fit! The Performance Exhaust really sounds amazing, just like a bmw should sound stock lol... I also wasn't sure if the exhaust was going to fit since the performance exhaust for the 125i seemed to have a different part number as to de 128i, so I took the risk and ordered the exhaust of the 128i and for my surprise its completely bolt on.
