Others will chime in but for a 135, I would say yes. Now I think you mean oil filter housing "gasket" [OFHG] replacement. You can look yourself to see if its urgent or can wait a while.

Yes, that's a great deal if he's doing what we think he's doing...hmmm. There are two gaskets and an o ring that make up the OFH assembly...and the rad fluid needs to be opened up...

If the dealer goes by the book, they will remove the intake. There's a documented way to work around removing the oil filter without touching the intake, saves a ton of time. Only bad part of this is having to drain the coolant, but that aside, it's an easy job.

You always have to remove the intake manifold. The manifold covers the rear bolt. You can't get the bolt out with the manifold in place.

Actually, you don't... If you use a 1/4" drive socket on a swivel with an e10 socket on extensions, you can get to that bolt with having to remove the intake. Done it twice now, at least on a N52 engine...

On N52 yes it's possible. On N54/N55 unfortunately it's not.

My car is at the dealer as I type this for both valve cover and OFH gasket replacement. $2200 for both. Points I have on my BMW credit card will eat $1850 of that and that's the only reason I'm not losing my mind.

I don't even consider myself that savvy, but was able to DIY it. $100, cost of the gaskets and some new oil to do an oil change/filter while I was at it.
Definitely not easy, but very doable with the right tools and patience |

About to do this job myself on a N54 and have yet to see a method of doing it without at least loosening the intake manifold nuts and easing back the manifold. Can it be done with extensions/swivels/speedwrenches?

No personal experience on the turbo motors, but I'm told by a reputable source that the key to getting in there without removing the intake is this: https://store.snapon.com/Universal-T...t-P642960.aspx
Yes, it's stupid expensive for a single universal socket, but nobody else makes a 1/4 drive one, and the 3/8 drive ones don't fit.

If this is true, it would be great.

To your "is it true" statement, yes, yes it is. The 1/4" drive socket will fit into that tight space, a 3/8" will not. As mentioned I've done it twice now and you do NOT have to remove the intake, at least on the N52. |

Sadly, the CTA tool is 3/8 drive, not 1/4. The Snap-On is the only 1/4 drive one I've found, and I've looked.
