Blu3Bae

Greetings!

I'm a brand new BMW owner with a pre-owned 2013 Montego Blue 135i which had about 60,000 miles on it.

If the previous owner is on here, thanks for taking good care of this car! It's easily the best car I've owned. What I love about it, besides the blue color, is that it reminds me a lot of my 2002 RSX-S which I had for 13 years and had over 250,000 miles on it when I traded that car in for a 2009 Accord Coupe.

At the time, the Accord had about 80,000 on it but when the intermediate driveshaft randomly popped out on my way to work a month ago and with 207,000 miles on the odometer, it was time to get another car. The A/C had already given up the ghost a few months prior.

Since I had my RSX-S, I've long been a Team Honda fan because we also had a 2001 Honda Odyssey with over 270,000 miles on it that was traded in on a newer model Odyssey. We had planned on getting a new/used Acura TLX A-spec some time next year until this mechanical issue with the Accord.

We had looked at and test drove a newer 4-door Accord and even a Mustang 5.0. It obviously had the performance but practically no room in the back for our two young boys. It was also a bit too loud for my long commutes.

So, while the Accord was in the shop, we decided to drive down to the Acura dealer to see if they happened to have any blue TLX's on the lot. They didn't have any blue cars at all -except- for this one little Beemer in the back row of the used car lot. I literally had sticker shock when I saw how much it was because it was priced less than a used Civic. Now, I hadn't even given *any* BMW much thought when we were looking at used cars but after test driving it, I had this moment:

And, man, did this thing scoot! I tried my best not to let the salesman see my enthusiasm but I was hooked.

I'm really looking forward to the miles we'll have together with #Blu3Bae!

I do have to give a shout out to ECS Tuning because in our 12+ years of marriage, my wife has never once had anything nice to say about my aftermarket car parts coming in the mail.

That is, until my aFe drop-in filter arrived because they happened to include a $100 wine voucher with it.

I don't know if they do this for everyone but my wife is a second level sommelier and really knows her wine stuff. I showed her the gift card and she said, "That's awesome!".

Me:

I think we're off to a good start with our 135i ^_^

I can't always get what I want, but, if I try, sometimes, I get what I need.

This is what kept repeating in my head (and maybe now yours too) after learning that Cobb and now MHD tuning are throwing me curve balls just to get into the tuning club.

From Cobb:

Thanks for contacting Cobb!

Unfortunately, we do not have an AP for the 2013 model as they changed ECU's in 2012 and we have not yet started on the newer models.

Sorry about that!

And on the MHD Google Play store:

!!! Important !!! Vehicle equipped with a MEVD1726 DME (built dating from around 03-2012) need a once time DME removal and bench flash to allow OBD flashing.

My VIN checked out that I would need to remove the DME and is definitely not in the cards to be without a car for at least a week just to bench flash.

I would probably consider the JB4 but it seems to be a bit more involved than I care to invest in whereas the Cobb and MHD tuning options are more user friendly. Plus, my wife seeing me tearing the car apart to install the JB4 may give her more ammunition than I care to give her, lol. Especially since the instructions for the JB4 look like I could confuse which plugs I should / should NOT use.

The silver lining for me is that I did discover that the PPK 1 was installed by the previous owner so I'll do my best to quell any urges for more performance because, in reality, it's really all I need...for now.

Edit, just received this response:

Hi,

yes, your car requires a bench flash.

Best regards
Momir

Thanks! I was wondering if I'd run into you while I was out and about, lol

I did get a curiosity seeker though who drove by several times wondering why I was laying in the road:

Nice car and shots!

Did the roof spoiler come with the car or did you put it on? If you put it on, which roof spoiler did you get?

Thanks!

I got the roof spoiler here on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Color-Paint...UiT3:rk:1:pf:0

This is the second time I ordered from them. The first I got was for my Accord. The spoiler comes with double-sided tape installed but it doesn't last too long because the way the spoiler is mounted on the glass, it basically pools water and can't drain properly which prematurely weakens the adhesive. When it gets loose, I just put on my own 30 lb. 3M double-sided tape in separate pieces so water can drain out better.
