Thanks! I bought those for autocross since they still fit within the F Street class rules, and let me run cheaper 17" tires, but I've grown to like the look of them too!

Preaching to the choir on that one! I entirely gave up on my sister and mom's leased RAV4's.
And I am slacking on my dad's X3 (E70?)

Took advantage of the warm (mid-40s) temps to wash off the accumulated layer of salt and dirt. Quite enjoyed the limited snow driving so far (Conti WinterContactSIs and DSC/DTC off is entertaining).

Got the car back today. $380 later. :/

It seems like the noise/vibration is kinda gone? From what they said and from my observations, what I had wasn't that bad (as the parts weren't in that bad of shape) but I think it's gone now. The only downside is that the exhaust drone/wubble noise is just annoyingly loud now. Those two noises (bad driveshaft and loud exhaust) always went in conjunction with each other and so it was always hard to tell if it was the exhaust + road + everything or if it was the driveshaft. And of course, when you put the car in neutral, I don't think the exhaust actually sounds the same.

Anyway, driveshaft DID have some kind of issue but I think most of it is resolved now.

Problem though: As soon as I picked up the car and drove it - a quite loud (but subtle because so high frequency) and annoying high frequency noise is being emitted from the front drivers side. It's intermittent but happens after high throttle (when slowing down), during startup for the first minute or so, and some other sporadic moments. Really really annoying. Girlfriend found it extremely obnoxious and we both noticed it as soon as we started the car. Brand new noise.

What a coincidence... :|

Anyway, the guys helped me diagnose it and said they don't have a clue but that to test it I should remove the accessories belt, start the car, and then see if the noise happens. If it doesn't then clearly it's the alternator or power steering.

It is very computery/electronic in sound (like a bad capacitor or some kind of interference noise you'd hear over your speakers) but it could be an air leak of some kind, I guess... but you'd think I'd get a code if it was. :P

But the noise isn't coming through the speakers. It's from a part and it just happens to get louder inside the cabin than outside.

I owned multiple sets when I was driving my E46 330i years ago. I assembled a set of four fronts to run 255-section square.

I have actually have a set of 17" x 8.5" Kosei K1s for my 135i. They just barely clear the Brembo brakes, but the setup works. I miss the style 68s for some reason though and still want a set even though I really don't need them.

The conditions you're describing point to vacuum leak. Smoke test is the most efficient way to diagnose.

I'd second that opinion, real cold could make them just shatter like fruit in liquid nitrogen, especially since Michelin's are known for having some softer compounds on their summer tires. I'm not much better, running all-seasons, but Virginia's snow hasn't been anywhere near horrible, and if it is, I have other options...

Some of the pics along the way. I'll say, for having PSS tires and truck conditions....my driving skills are exceptional

Made it all by the last 45 miles. The pic of the car on the trailer without snow is when my builder came to pick me up. The other pic is the next morning.
Wow. Did you have a bunch of snow on the convertible top?

I always thought ice cold temperatures and snow and ice was a death sentence for a convertible top.

The next day - hosed the car off in a heated garage and then put her in a storage area until the motor is pulled.

Could be but I'm skeptical. Who knows. It sounds so electronic that a vacuum pump thing is something I'm skeptical of, but who knows!

Replaced my shocks and struts and did new strut mounts. Just used OEM Sachs coupled with the Eibach Pro springs the previous owner installed.

I knew my shocks were toast when I bought the car but I never imaged it would make such a dramatic difference to replace them. It's like a completely new car. So smooth and comfortable.

With Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 18" still being unavailable, OE M240i star-spec PSS' have been ordered at a not insignificant discount.

Too bad it's winter now. I love me some dsc off snow action, but I hate the winter time otherwise.

Finally got my airbag recall done!! Took a while for the parts to actually arrive.

Got treated VERY well at the dealer even though I've never given them a single cent.

Watched the tech drive the car away and he actually knew how to drive! And they listened to my NO CAR WASH request. I just polished the hood, I don't need to do it again.

I have a friend who wasn't able to say the same. Apparently on his E46, he has a dash cam that makes a new .txt log every time the motor was turned on, and when he got the car back there were like 10 logs within minutes of each other, and his shift knob was on backwards. Needless to say I was thoroughly spooked.

Sidenote: they said they inspected my car and I have nothing wrong, but my oil pan is definitely leaking

Working on a group buy for some hoodies, long-sleeve tee's, short-sleeve tee's and women's tee's:

How do you all like the design? I need a little time to set up a group buy order form through Custom Ink. Regular tee's should be about $7 each, long-sleevers should be about $10 each, ladies' about $7 each, and hoodies about $23 each. If this sale goes well, I have some other designs I'm working on.

I got a steering wheel re-wrap kit for my b-day on Monday, it's a Xuji with red and blue stitching and perforated leather accents around it, a very very nice product, which comes with all the tools necessary for installation. Eventually I'll pull off the wheel and spend a weekend remembering and re-learning how to sew.

Every time I drive my car, I'm loving my intake boot, manifold, and tune more and more and more. My fuel economy is getting better (more torque = less revs necessary), acceleration is way stronger and more linear, and the drivetrain feels so much more responsive than before. I should be replacing a hub and bearing soon, so hopefully my insanity-inducing noise will be gone. Also, a shifter rebuild will be a must in the near future. In the distance I can also make out the faintest outline of a 3.73 diff...

I really like those K1 wheels, Tock! I have a set on my Mini Cooper S. (R53). Unfortunately, NLA. I had to have one repaired when I curbed it, because I couldn't find one anywhere. The only problem with them is that they show off the brakes so much I ended up going with a Wilwood 13" BBK because the stock brakes looked puny. Best upgrade to it, yet!

(belated) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I like it better than most 1 series apparel, which is usually just a generic picture of a 1M.

https://toolanddyedesigns.com/produc...t=169313501187

Some more if you like this. Do my eyes deceive me or is that 1M actually a 128i??

And while you talk me into the 3IM/tune, lemme tell you how great the 3.73 is .
I feel if you combine these mods we'll actually be able to blast the tires off in 1st.

What are you think about for the shifter rebuild? I'll tell ya my BMW perf short shifter/ZHP knob is FANTASTIC.

Looks nice, but why no wheels and tires? Personally, I think it would better with them.

Thought this was a pretty nice shirt design from a couple years back although it was more expensive:

Some more if you like this. Do my eyes deceive me or is that 1M actually a 128i??

And while you talk me into the 3IM/tune, lemme tell you how great the 3.73 is .
I feel if you combine these mods we'll actually be able to blast the tires off in 1st.

What are you think about for the shifter rebuild? I'll tell ya my BMW perf short shifter/ZHP knob is FANTASTIC.
Thanks! I think I'll add some wheels to it to complete the look. That is definitely a 128i, with my wheels, too, if my eyes aren't tricking me.

For the shifter rebuild, I'm going to go with the teflon bushings from ECS, with all-new hardware. I'll probably go with the BMWP SSK lever and a ZHP knob to spice it up a bit more.

Made another fun design candidate:

I'll get group ordering going for this and the final version of the one presented earlier, hopefully, by the end of the week.

Prices for these:
Tee - ~$12
Long-Sleeve Tee - ~$15
Women's Tee - ~$12
Hoodie - ~$27

Thought this was a pretty nice shirt design from a couple years back although it was more expensive:

It's only an outline, I felt like adding detail for wheels would ruing the sketch-y look. Same estimated pricing as the similar design a few posts above.
