It was only a matter of time... Lexus competitor to the 1-series
until someone else develops a car to compete with the 1 since there appears to be no current competition. Enter Lexus who has plans in the making. Should be interesting to see what this car will look like.

I absolutely hate it when they say things like this: "Auto Motor und Sport is reporting they [Lexus - ed] are building a Euro-version only for right now but the Spies say read between the lines...you can bet, they will eventually have to bring it to the USA becuase the new 1 [BMW - ed] is going to rock the living daylights out of the auto world and catch EVERYONE napping!" - Sheesh, how are we going to keep this thing of ours a secret if guys like this say things like that.

Oh snap! Let me call my dealer and withdraw my 1er deposit.
Toyota doesn't sell a single decent sporty car (possible exception for IS350). What makes them think they can enter this market? |

Come on guys, you know it would happen sooner or later. BMW has an untapped market and obviously other auto makers are taking notice. BMW will have first to the market advantage though. I for one am interested to see what the Lexus will look like. The supra wasn't to bad of a car and if they can make something sporty with a decent price it should do well. I am all for competition, it makes the car choices better for us consumers.

I like how all of Toyotas badges are ovals on their side, makes the cars super easy to rebadge. I could take this new alleged Lexus that they wish was a 1 series competitor, and pull off the Lexus badge and change it over to a Scion in no time. Then you'd really have something.
I'll also bet this Lexus is a 4 door. Toyota doesn't speak 2 door...especially in their Lexus line. |

I will believe it when the car actually performs. I lost my trust in Lexus when it said IS will beat 3 series and then failed to deliver.
I find it hard to believe Lexus can produce a car that will offer as much value as the 1 series. The new competitor will need an great engine with great tuning potential, plus it needs the balance of a BMW which Lexus has failed to deliver time after time.

So many car manufacturers offer a car in your choice of 2 or 4 doors, yet Toyota hasn't figured this out. I would love to see an IS350 2 door, or better yet, a 2 door version of the officially confirmed IS-F (or IS500 or whatever they're going to call it). Either way, Toyotas branded as Lexus are very, very reliable. There is much to be said for this characteristic. -AJ edit: spelling owns me |

There's probably going to be alot of competition in the segment soon, especially if the 1-series does well. Hyundai will be introducing a RWD coupe (with a v8 possibly), and there has been rumors lately about toyota coming out with a new AE86...

Well there were/are rumors that Lexus is going to build a IS coupe last year. I did a quick search and could not find any more info on that. I haven't found a recent article stating that if and when Lexus will make the IS coupe. |

I doubt they would go that route, but you never know. I was kind of hoping for something that resembles the old Supra's but that may just be wishful thinking.

Ahhh, I posted this in the other cars forums and nobody reads it there. I think from now on i'm going to post everything in the coupe forum...but yeah I think the added competition will only be good for us consumers.

On the acura forum I moderate, we get quite a bit of reposting, crossposting and just plain posting on the wrong forum... Please don't post offtopic stuff in the coupe forums, it just drives me crazy |
