Yep!
My F-i-L bought it brand new back in the day. My wife bought it off him in the eighties. She'd owned other things, including a '95 GT Vert (4.9 5mt) DD so the old one kinda fell into neglect. I took over care and feeding in 2000, but it was still hers. Technically a 2-owner vehicle I suppose, but only one family.
We moved in with said F-i-L about 4 years ago, and had no place to store a (fourth) car. So, after 49 years of faithful service, we sold Mustang Sally through a specialty vehicle consignment center.
I included some old parts and all the old records. New buyer lives less than 10 miles away, hunted us down, and invited us to the original dealership for the car's 50th B-Day party.
Turns out he was a big-wig at a supplier my B-i-L was working with, so added a connection there.
He FB messaged my wife before Mother's Day last year - "Sally misses you - come drive her." Couldn't turn that down.
My wife and I kept the car pretty original. (Switched to electronic ignition for dependability and front disc brakes for safety). He's added Bluetooth audio and stereo speakers, cupholders, period-correct A/C, period-correct alloy wheels, dual exhaust; and had her taken apart, all worn-out stuff replaced, and put back together. All she still needs is paint, and he polished that up quite nicely, too. And created a leather-bound booklet with 50+ years of service and maintenance receipts.

Anyway, the F-i-L (may he rest in peace) passed away the 7th of July. When new owner received the news he informed my wife that he'd be dropping off the car in time for the rosary and memorial services.
Incredible.
A little over the top, actually, but he likes to think of Sally as my F-i-L's third child, and wanted her to be involved in any way possible.
Frankly, the 1 is a much better drive, but we get a lot more looks and compliments in the classic. The temptation to buy the Mustang back just to have and care for it is great. But, considering how long he'd looked for an original, red convertible and what he's put into it, I'm sure he'd need at least triple what he paid to make it worthwhile.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled 1er talk.
Thank you all for letting me rant.
Wow, thank you for sharing, that's awesome of the new owner!!

My dad's is a little beat, some rust here and there, but almost entirely original. It's a blue coupe with the inline 6, 3 speed which is perfect for putting around.

My mom hates it though, the previous owner put a nice exhaust on it and my mom hates that she can hear my dad coming around the block. She also always makes fun of it and says the car won't even make it up the local large grade on the highway. My dad always punches back by grabbing the keys and saying, I'll get it warmed up and we can go for a drive. In a way, it helps to keep that nice playful peace at my parents house haha.

But yes, back to the 1er.

Is there a DIY video in the future Jim I still use my R12GS Maintenance video, which is getting difficult, I'm going to have to rip the DVD to a file so I can use it on my laptop next weekend for a servo brake flush!

The oil change on these cars is hilariously easy to do. There's a few DIY's around here.

Probably not. There are so many already, though maybe not as detailed as my BMW Motorcycle videos, that I doubt there is any demand for them.

Glad my video has been useful to you. If you can't manage to rip it, let me know. I have them available as a download now, and will give you the replacement price.

My new Miata was delivered today...the 128i is off to CarLotz on a consignment sale. Certainly didn't see that coming when I bought it 2+ years ago.

You guys are the best...will miss you...

No, I bought a manual Sport. I wanted White...not a pearl white...and there was only one within 250 miles of me. Flow Mazda of Greensboro, NC delivered it to me on Richmond, VA at no cost after giving me a good deal. Flawless transaction really. 1.9% financing pus $750.00 was impossible to pass up.
I am varoadking there as well...see you on the dark side...

Put a trans cooler in.

Didn't turn out how I'd planned. I have a thermostat but I didn't like the line routing with the fittings I have. Need to get some 180* ones and I'll give another go at it.
For now, it'll work.

I've had it off before. More than just screws...clips into the rest of the bumper in about 7 or so spots. Wasn't that easy and I almost broke some of them the first time...no thanks. Masking took 5 mins to put on and 30 seconds to take off.

Not compared to the old ones with dipsticks or my land rover LR4.

Vacuum extract the oil and change the filter....by the time you have the filter out, cleaned up and replaced you pour the oil back in and done.

The LR has a vacuum port under the oil fill cap you hook the extractor up to!!!!

Helped to diagnose and fix my problem:
Does anyone know if the routing problem was corrected for later model years? Somewhere I recall that it was, but, can't find anything. Just wondering if I need to pull my console apart and re-route before any wires break.

Started the valve cover gasket replacement job. Stopped because I didn't have an E8 socket to take out the eccentric motor.

My car is the last of the N54's (Feb '10). So maybe in the N55's, but I doubt it.

Really not that hard to pull the consul and check. And yes the whole consul needs to come out of the E82.
