Was in contact with Öhlins 2 years ago and they told me specific that they did not recommend the BMSMI00 kit for the 1-series. That kit was for the 3-series e90.

Second, every ohlins kit i've ever seen sold for a 1-series has 60/70 rates as stock rates. So part numbers and models aside that is what was being sold. Many sites show that kit as fitting 1-series even if not "officially" to be sold for it. The fitment is the same between them. There is no reason why a 3-series would need 60/70 N/mm and a 1-series would need 70/120 N/mm except that 60/70 was a bad spring rate to begin with. That is literally 3x stiffer up front and basically stock out back. I just see Ohlins comments as covering their asses a bit with the whole "oh well that was never meant for the 1-series" excuse. |

Yes Í have also seen that kit beeing sold for 1-series. But Öhlins never said that the BMS-MI00 would fit the 1-series according to their website. Those who sold the kit were probably aware of that and just said - "yes it fits the 1-series" as you can get it in place. No guarantees though how it would work on the car.

When I contacted a UK dealer asking about the new kit, they initially recommended the e90 kit BMS MI00.
Will be interesting to see what they tell SKI-R about the changes for the new kit. |

Interesting thread! Definitely exciting news from Öhlins.
Just a guess, but I imagine one reason for the different f/r spring rates between E9x and E8x might have something to do with the difference in wheelbase length. Despite the E9x and E8x having the same subframes/basic suspension geometry, the shorter wheelbase length of the E8x chassis would create the need for a different f/r spring & damping rates. Those who've installed any "E9x approved" kit on their E8x, what are (if any perceived) negative effects? I'm guessing the E9x kit on an E8x would yield a ride that has a pogo-stick like ride (front to rear oscillating out of sync)? Or maybe a turn-in feel that is slower (or faster) to rotate, creating a feel of more oversteer (or understeer)? The study of technical differences of suspension setups (both theory and applied) are always fascinating.

Follow up to initial response:
Good morning, I was able to get some additional information from the Engineering team on this. The kit has be updated in a few ways. In addition to the spring change, there HAS been new valving specified for the dampers and there has been some modification to way the springs mount on the dampers improve the correct droop from the kit while retaining the correct preload. Also, for Shipping info, we are expecting to have stock in May at this time. I don’t have a confirmed date yet, so this might still move a bit. Thanks. From an Ohlins enquiry started last week, reply is from a dot se email address....interpret availability info on your own for now, I'll ask for clarification.

Timeline in post 31 was European specific. Query has been forwarded to a US counterpart to share what the NA schedule is likely to be......
Apparently it's NOW - HP Autosport has it listed on their site as stated a handful of posts prior to this one! Gotta get through next week's ski adventure and order mine up

And (un)officially, but from Ohlins USA:
Thanks for contacting us. The BMW Mi01 kit is now available in the USA. You will be able to order direct in a few days from Öhlinsusa.com or from our E90-specialist dealer: https://3dmmotorsport.com/collection...n-kit-bms-mi01 Thanks

should look into linear beehive springs if clearance is your primary concern

Barry @ 3DM used Ohlin's as the basis for his custom coilovers. My guess is that his feedback, and actual shaker rig testing results, prompted Ohlin's to do more than just adapt their generic damper to the platform.

I think this 1-series specific kit comes with shorter springs to improve clearance for wider wheels.
