Tuning before and after MILVs?

I’d like to eventually add MILVs (and maybe even the rumored exhaust camshaft regrind), but don’t think I want to bite off camshaft + MILVs + MILV tool + valve cover gasket + BPC tune all at once. Too much cost and too many things changing at once (making troubleshooting challenging).

So, two (and a half) questions:

Has anyone done a BPC tune prior to MILVs and then retuned with BPC again after the MILVs? How much did they charge for the second tune?

Can you run MILVs without a tune the way you can run a 3SI without a tune? (Assuming the answer is no for this one)

Thanks!

Would it be safe to run Milvs without a tune for a couple months potentially?

Yep, you just won't have any of the benefits of the upgrade.

apparently, i have lived under a rock and had never heard of the MILVS till today. I have the AA headers, AA tune & 3SI. Is there another tune i need to take advantage of this? Or will the tune i have work?

Unfortunately your tune won't work for these. AA doesn't do/have the Milv tune, although I read somewhere where they are trying to develop one.

See my signature for my tune. He's the guy who worked with the guy who actually created the Milvs concept, and cracked it awhile ago. Also hassmaschine on the "3" series forum knows the tune, he's just extremely busy and hard to get a hold of.

Also...it sucks but you will have to buy a new cable and start from scratch when switching tuners. So you could be looking at around $1K tops for the MILVS and then a new tune.....so factor that in.

But I will preface that with this, the tune in my signature is a proven one that has been done by many....and is viewed as one of the best off the shelf solutions aside from having him dyno tune the car!

Hi!

sorry, but are you sure???

this is the Marty answer to the same question :

"You can used the MILVs without a tune. Engine will run fine. It will take 1-2
weeks for the ecu to adapt and more power. The tune will allow more power
right after install, no waiting 1-2 weeks for adaptation."

You'll get some gains without the tune but you will not get full benefits until you tune it and reset the engine performance "modeling" for the increased airflow.

So if i am correct, i will just need to do a valvetronic calibration after the milvs fiting?

I am in France, and it will be difficult, if not impossible, to find a tuner able to map the milvs. Milvs are not an usual mod in this area.

Thanks for yours advices.

Yeah barely anyone in the world knows what MILVS are.

Stage FP and Bimmerlabs are the two tunes I'm aware of that support MILVS.
