MHD Datalog

Greetings...

Just wondering whats wrong with my boost... like a roller coaster.
no codes pending.
What else to look for ?

Replaced all vacuum hoses
replaced charged pipe to metal
upgraded FMIC to EVO1
replaced the 2 boost controller.
Spark plugs and coils replaced less than 10k miles ago.
Gas 93Octane pump

MHD Stage 1+ 91Octane - same thing
MHD Stage 2+ 91Octane - same thing

Looks like a boost/vac leak.

Any time you're not hitting target values and your throttle plate maintains it's open % that's the story 98% of the time.

I would do a leak test for your high pressure side of things and see if there's anything missed or needs extra tightening

You are actually wrong saying 98%. You are 100% correct. Both of the cheap boost solenoids was bad. Both of the caps came off and that is why I cannot maintain the target boost. Swap back the original solenoids and the car is a beast now.
Thank you so much.

Glad I could help.

Here is the log I pulled this morning. Does it look normal or I can get more out of it ?

Those graphs look much better. Boost and boost target overlap nicely, very smooth.

Looks a lot better but there is something that looks a bit strange to me at least. It looks like your throttle plate is closing (down to about 25%) to control boost instead of leaving the throttle fully open and controlling with the wastegate. Maybe that's how the N54's are tuned, but on the N55 that's not really what you want to see. I'd check your vacuum lines for leaks or for obstructions around the wastegate arms to make sure they can open properly. I've heard that the V-band clamp from downpipes can get in the way of the arms sometimes so if you've installed DP's recently you may want to check that

Could it be because I forgot to disabled my TC ? I am going to logged another with TC off.

Looks ok, but your boost is still being mainly controlled by the throttle plate. That's not the most efficient way to do it and you'll pick up more power if you can figure out why your wastegate isn't controlling boost properly. Could be vacuum lines, solenoids, or interference with the wastegate arms...

Looks really good although you're overshooting requested. I think that's why the plate isn't all the way open. That said it doesn't always need to be and the flow is very nonlinear so a little open gets a lot of flow.

True, but why is it overshooting? I'm thinking its a wastegate related issue. If you can control boost without closing the throttle, then it's more efficient and allows you to make more power.

Basically the wastegate is staying mostly closed and providing let's say 20psi of boost at the compressor outlet. Target is 16psi so the throttle has to close enough to create a 4psi pressure drop. If the wastegate was operating properly, the compressor outlet pressure could be essentially equal to the target pressure and the throttle plate could be left open. With the wastegate open more, the exhaust gas has an alternate pathway to take instead of going through the turbine so backpressure is decreased. So now you get the same boost pressure with less backpressure, which means less pumping work and more power.

OP replaced his "two boost controller" which I guess means his wastegates. They're probably not calibrated quite right.

I am going to replace both solenoid again. I looked at other people's log and they are holding like 81.xx% all the time. Mine could not hold at that. Will update again.
