Manual Tranny/Start Procedure

Hi all, I was wondering if you pressed the start button first w/o the clutch to get to the accessory mode and then depress the clutch to start, or just bypass the accessory mode by depressing the clutch first to start the car. I used to just start the car, now I'm doing it the long way for fear of damaging something(I don't know what, but worried anyways). Waste of time?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Just inserting the fob turns everything on (except the darned sunroof) ...is this what you mean by accessory mode?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean accesory. You know in a regular car with a key, one turn and you get power(accessory), the next turn gets you all the check engine lights(that's the mode I'm talking about) and the final turn starts the engine. Sorry for the confusion!

I also get in - foot on clutch and start button....
If it wasn't "ok" for the car, with an electronic ignition like this...it wouldn't start.

ok, this is simple,

when you insert the key you get accesory mode,

when you push the start button once you get the "ON" mode where sunroof, fan, everything works

when you push it again, it shuts off

Your "simple" procedur does not work. You need to press the clutch (or brake at auto) at the 2:nd step otherwise the car does not start and instead you come into the state that HRC called accessory mode. That is like turning on the ignition without cranking in a "normal" car.

My understanding of the manual is that you normally donīt pass this ignition mode, but you can do it if you like. When you insert the fob, my radio starts and that is what I would call accessory mode.

um, I was pretty sure the guy had pieced together how to start his car. I never mentioned anything about starting the car, I was only explaining how to get the different equivalents of turning a key by using our new fangled system without starting the car.

relax, you have a nack for missing the whole point in every thread you touch.

HRC, your long way might just be the safest way, thats when the cars knows and is going to be ready to have the engine started, like the fuel pump priming, arming the ignition, etc. I just dont know if damages the engine by just hasting.

Thank you very much for your help! I agree with you, and will continue to go the "long" way

Thanks Again!

you'd be just fine if you

insert key
push clutch
hit the button

what you've been doing is equivalent to turning the key to the ON position letting it sit for a second and then turning the key the rest of the way. No one starts a car like that, they just turn the key. Just put your foot down and hit the button, you won't hurt anything

Ward....I didn't know that I could hit the Start button after the fob insert to get the sunroof to work...that was bugging me because the windows work as soon as the fob is in....weird......yeah...more things light up when you hit start but before engine start....coolio.

I know all mechanics of jets, turbo props planes, piston planes, carb cars, f.i. cars, and f.i. motorcycles.
With the exception of turbine power, all above warrants priming of some sort. Easy example is a modern Honda sportbike with fuel injection. Honda warrants to wait for the sound of the in-tank fuel to prime, shuts off, and the "FI" annunciator extinguished. Takes about 2sec.

My friend does this same method on his A4 Ultrasport, but he is a little anal most of the time about his car!
