Rear seat removal mod

i know this is old and i am not here to permanently remove the back seats (spilled some iced tea in mine, got curious), but stumbling on this was cool. It is a good weight reduction mod!! Along with: lightweight wheels/tires, lighter exhaust (mine's straight from the secondary cats back ), and a healthy diet + exercise (still working on it). This stuff has to weigh 50-75 lbs (seat backs and bottoms)

1) Remove the two T50 (14)

2) Fold the RH seat down and move it as far outboard as possible to get the wide part of the pivot pin out of the hinge bracket (12).

3) Keep the LH seat fairly upright, pull the outboard end forward then pull the seat outboard. Repeat this in steps until the LH seat pulls off the pivot pin, which is attached to the RH seat.

4) Remove the RH seat easily after this.

Seat backs together weigh 36 lbs.

My main research led me.here.
I am seriously considering getting the e82 as it reminds me in size the first car I had,an e21.
I have 2 kids
So the idea was to save all the extra space left when removing the rear seats,and attach directly to the isofix hooks, a valid and secure child seat.
Easy: why do I need 17cm of back cushion if I had an extra plastic for a child seat?
Why should I need that so long/deep seat for.kids up to 4.5 feet?
Why should I stress of any marks,scratches,food vomiting etc for my lovely leather when my kids are 2 and 5yo?

So thanks for this mod.here are my questions:
Have you tried fixing a child car seat without the cushions?
I am pretty confident on the isofix,however,not sure as they now seem higher than possibly accepted to hook the thing,
And more over: would the child seat have some rest on the back?
I mean,would the height of the seat be enough to rest on a solid bar?
As for.security,as we never carry kids with an empty trunk,...
Is it easy to fix strongly some thick protection (1" is enough
) or even some metal bars for the seats never fall in the trunk?

Your answers could be soooo important...
I spent my childhood travelling on the back seats of an e21 and then I drove it on my young years <3

I enjoy the form factor so I really think about this.
Trunk capacity is pretty nice, rear seats may be a bit short (anyone has tried to fit it childseats, with a pic, and the size of the driver?)

What no one has mentioned, is that with the rear seats removed you can transport your track tires, locked and inside the car, to any track days. This was my main motivation for the exercise, the weight loss was a bonus.

Maybe this is something iminhell1 might consider since he's trying to find ways to haul his tires for driving on the ice. Unless, of course, he needs his back seat.

As if getting into an accident and hit in the head with a tire wasn’t bad enough... let’s add spikes to that equation!

Yeah, that wouldn't be too good, but I would imagine people who transport them that way would fasten them in somehow, at least that's what I'd do.

This guy isn't talking about keeping them in the trunk. They are in the cabin still. So in the event of a crash they can still come at the passengers.

I'm looking for a more permanent way out, vs the semi-permanent vegetable state.



And I keep about 50# of tools in the trunk all the time. So having the uppers in place and locked is nice. Jam brakes I don't have 10mm's flying at me.

But come Summer who knows. I want to drop weight and that means loosing some interior for track days.

I had some cheapo bath towels over the spikes in contact with the interior.

But still managed to beat up the C pillar covers. Oh well, just reason to cover in darker pseudo alacantera.

how do you people put the track tires without the rear seats? i removed them today because of this
