For me BMW == I6, and I’ve M50 swapped an E30 too The S65 sounds like a special engine, but I haven’t driven one yet. I’ve looked at what it would take to do this very swap (I’ve considered owning two 1Ms), but would only do it on a copart/rebuild. I’m waiting on RB ones and think they’ll push 18psi to redline on stock fueling (maybe LPFP and some WMI for HPDEs). I could also see a SGM E90 M3 w/6spd on my list, to get the S65 experience. I’ve also looked at DCT swapping a 1M, but I’d probably get more flame than you do for this… cooling for DCT with N54 cooling woes seems to be the only hurdle.

Struggle is real , EDC or no EDC… for some reason I really want to keep it even though it’s limiting vs a nice adjustable setup…B16s?

I have no inside knowledge of the BMW EDC algorithms, but the original edc utilizes accelerometers, that aftermarket systems do not have. So based on system inputs, i’d go for true EDC. I’d expect a dynamic control (like Ohlins/Volvo four-c) iso aftermarket static settings. Dackel long ago linked me to a friend who had overcome that the steerangle sensor had to be reprogrammed to be fully e82 compatible, which i did not pursue.

So a true EDC retrofit om 1m would yield a dynamic control, but to me it seemed technically more challenging than just assembling the M3 parts. That said, if you incorporate the M3 parts number list, it may work just fine.

S65/DCT is an absolute treat in E82 chassis. 6mt is not just on the same level.

Congrats on project, I am jealous of the goose bumps you'll get on the first drive

Been enjoying the wife's car immensely this summer

I am starting to agree….mainly because the N54 is not a great motor to maintain when used aggressively.

I may eventually do something similarly crazy. 😂

So far so good, loom is pretty much out. Last step is to remove the subframes and she will be ready. M3 next….

You have no idea how stressed out I am right now!

Buddy of mine recently did a bunch of restoration on his E30 318i and had the entire interior out so he could patch some rust work in the pan while doing some other bodywork. His car looked like this, and it completely stressed me out. I love doing a lot of my own work, but bodywork and interior work, keeping track of all of the nuts, bolts, tabs, wiring harness is, etc. is something I would never want to do. My hat is off to you!!

Case in point: I had a stress-dream nightmare shortly after I had been at his house checking out the work on his car. In the dream, I realized on the evening before a track day that we had taken my son's car apart to do some work on it. I went out to the garage and saw that it was in this basic condition, even though we were supposed to be at the track in the morning. We had just a few hours before daybreak to get everything put back together and get to the track. I woke up from that dream in a sweat!

Good luck! 😂

Well here is the latest damage report. I'll let you guess what happened

What 750whp and a broken diff bolt can do...

Note: Look at the beef support a 335xi rail gets up front!

Indeed, it was more than we originally knew when I bought it back. But everything is solid, secure, and got a nice little front support bar since it has the AWD lug.

Now if you want to see surgery lol....

These pics are why I am still a fan of N54… sometimes I think folks go S65 just to post pics of bearings… although I’m sure wearing them down at 8k rpm isn’t a bad time either.

When I was in Sydney picking up my 335i from Marty he took me for a spin through the twisties in his 1m, the s65 paired with the dct is on another level.

Those that say keep your car original have never experienced such a car and kudos to you for doing this, whish I had the funds.

Your car is going to be insane, make sure you get the GTS tune on the gearbox as it transforms the car.

Getting close. Wiring roughed into 1M and realizing how many new sensor brackets I have to weld in (Brake Booster, Accelerometers, Etc) to retain things like EDC. Now the 7+ ECS orders need to arrive :-(

Surprised to see so many people liking the E9x dct. I felt the 4 I've driven to be incredibly lethargic compared to the 6MT S65s. Least engaging V8 experience I'd ever had
