Convertable Top Sensor Locations?
I am trying to figure out why my top has issues closing. i can't find any codes or any mechanical obstructions. does anyone know where the various sensors are located?
i want to try pulling some and see what happens. assuming that if I pull a working one the top will break more, and if I pull the failing one the top should react the same way it is now. 2010 135i |

Unfortunately there is very little knowledge of the Convertible top mechanism/issues for the E88 available online.
If you go to www.realoem.com and go to the convertible top break downs for your car, you can see schematics of the sensors, they are difficult to get to. They are in the latches, frame, top header, and top lid. Without the proper software you won't know which one is the problem, I don't think Carly will help you anything with this. Your best bet if you don't want to take it to the dealer or a specialist is getting INPA/ISTA on a laptop with a cable. I used ISTA to show which sensor was showing incorrectly when my top was having issues, then adjusted that sensor and that fixed it. These are all just hall effect sensors or micro switches looking for the presence of something in front of them. Likely one of the sensors is not placed correctly (they're held on with clips or screws and have some ability to adjust) or a wire is frayed causing intermittent connection. |

There does appear to be a variety of hall effect sensors in the roof area. I get convertible hall effect sensor code errors all the time yet my top works (knock on wood). I've tried tinkering to see if I could find the issue but access back there is minimal so it's tough. Good luck and let us know if you find any interesting sensor locations.
