Do You Have Continental DWS'???

I'm looking to see if anyone is running these tires AND has mods

I've seen some good reviews on these. I ran them on my M3 and loved them.
My concern is with all this power and torque will these be able to handle it.

I just purchased the Conti Extreme Contact DW set of 4. Not enough time to tell. I had them on my C63 and loved them, mostly because how smooth they were on the road. Very little road noise. There are better performing tires in dry weather but these are great for the price.

Yea, my car has a lot more power and almost 200 more foot pounds of torque than the M3 did.

Well then, you may be better off with the Extreme Contact DW for summer, but if your intent is to find a good all-season tire (for use in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall), the DWS should fit the bill nicely.

Play with pressures to get the grip right.

I've had mine on the track (one of the instructor's sessions while the class was eating) and found them to be fine in the corners. Granted, I wasn't going banzai or anything (didn't have the time to set my pressures up), but they're a good tire nonetheless.

For commuting purposes, I liked the DWSs better than the stock RFTs. They actually seemed grippier. I felt the stock RFTs were like driving on crappy all-season tires until you built up some significant heat in them.

they are great year 'round tires. I intend to get another set when they die. also had mine on a wet track day and they preformed really well. as mentioned earlier, the sidewalls are a bit soft especially noticeable when you come off the RFTs but you'll get used to them very quickly. they have decent dry grip but keep in mind they are not all out performance tires so if you start pushing them like an extreme summer tire you'll be disappointed. they do fit nicely between my other two sets of wheels/tires for track and winter and cover the majority of the work load. highly recommended for the right usage

They actually have a newer version with stiffer sidewalls.

The 255/35/18 has a load rating of 90, the new ones are 94.
Im hoping that will alleviate some of the squishiness

my favorite do everything tire. got dw for my 135 because there's no 245 and the 255 costs to much. got dws on the e36. rft is shit. any who thinks rft is better should be run over by an rft to knock some sence back in.

I have DWS in 225/255 sizes.
Very grippy, but the tire is a little squishy so the underdamped suspension of the car makes it feel like you lose some turn-in feel.
The car isn't as responsive as with the stiff RFTs, whose sidewall compensates for the crummy shocks.
Otherwise grippy and great in rain

Yeah...don't know if this is a moot point or not, but I ran DWSs on my '10 Miata and removed them within 2 months. WORST tires
handling-wise I'd ever experienced. Wasn't sure if I was riding on rubber or sponge. TOTAL disconnect. YMMV on a 1er, but I'd never
put these tires on a car I owned again...even if I won them in a raffle.

I've been running the DWSs (225/255) on my 09' 135i (JB+ @ 100% only mod) for about 3 years and ~40k miles, my thoughts below:

Pros:
- Tread life (I drive it pretty hard and got around 40k out of the fronts and 30k out of the rears)
- Cost
- Wet Grip
- Ride comfort (as compared to run-flats)
- D,W and S indicators are a nice touch

Cons:
- Like some other posters mentioned, you lose the 'sharpness" of turn in and responsiveness that the run-flats have.
- When the tread is new it does quite well in the snow, but you're eating up that deep snow tread year round. I've since bought new snow wheels/rims and now realize that there is no replacement for a good dedicated set of snows.

Overall, imho these are great all season tires and I'm on my second set of them. Now that I have dedicated snows, I SHOULD go with the DWs but it's hard to justify the significantly reduced tread life when I don't have much issue with traction (I can break them loose pretty easily in 1st but beyond that they don't have an issue). If I was putting down much more power though, a 3 season tire may be appropriate.

DWS has the reputation of best snow and ice traction of any all-season tire. Others like Bridegstone and Michelin are supposedly more summer oriented.

Even dedicated snow tires stop working in snow after tread gets below 6mm.

Interesting while I've never purchased a set of Kumho's myself I've had 2nd hand experience with them through friends and they've been universally hated after the first few thousand miles. Btw there was no need to be a dick, you come into a thread about DWS tires saying they suck but then offer no alternative.

@Nifty - thats some impressive treadwear I've got about 10,000 on my rears and they're totally shot.

The OP was looking for opinions (I'm assuming good and bad) on these tires and I offered mine. I also stated that "YMMV on a
1er" as I've never run them (nor would I) on my 135. I don't think his intent was to start a "what do you like better" thread.

I guess I could see that but I was serious. Coming from someone who's had them hearing from another who's had them I wanted to know what you found better since we've both run the DWS

I don't have them on my 1M but I got a set for the wife's MKV GTI and love them. They are quiet, very good in the rain.....very quiety and almost good enough in the dry. They are quiet too! The GTI has a problem with tire noise and this is the best ever. They are a little soft on turn-in but if I live somewhere where it rained often and got chilly in the winter, I highly recommend these and they are not too expensive and they last....and they are quiet. If you had a GTI you would understand how important that is.

If you want a bit more dry performance all season, the Potenza 970 is from my research a little better but also more money. I give the DWS a 9 out of 10 rating with a .5 point reduction for softer turn in than Potenza RE-050 and .5 redution for dry traction.
