The USIS isn't a glass break sensor; it's an interior motion sensor.

The UIS is from the E46. I'm attaching it because it has the best explanation of how it works. Operationally, it's the same as the E8x's USIS (also attached; from the E65 training manual).

You can call it whatever you like, but the main function is window breakage protection. The doors and trunk are covered, so I can only think of one other way to get in? The windows.

Chris pelease let us know how the programming goes. So far I have heard of 3 135s who were not able to get programmed properly at the dealer for the alarm because of bad software.

I will, but I am surprised. Darn new BMW's :iono:

At least the clown nose lights up now when the car is locked (no programming needed)

talked to my bro and he said they charge 3hrs as well for programming.but the price is $325 for 3hrs.he states that the vehicles software has to be updated first if needed before retrofitting the alarm.

Doesn't the 135i have some sort of factory immobilizer or theft deterant system already?

All BMWs have an immobilizer (EWS) which prevents the car from starting without the correct key. Considering EWS uses 128-bit encryption, it's pretty much impossible to hot wire a BMW.

DWA (the dealer-installed option) is the actual alarm system with a hood switch, tilt and interior protection sensors.

with the 3ers, some people were able to get the activation for free by asking the dealer's things like "can you make my car beep?", or "my alarm doesn't work," may be something to try

I was quoted 1 Hour of labor for activation at $106 plus tax which is inline with your dealer.

The labor times are set in the computer, so you should not be getting quoted 3 hours. Are you guys sure you are being quoted for activation and not being quoted for installation and activation?

Wow, this is extremely easy to do! Seems like the factory did all the wiring work and this is a plug and play system., the only caveat is if your comfortable taking apart trim pieces and such to get this done.

Thanks for the DIY!

Hey ChrisK, you mentioned that the trunk was protected by the alarm system you installed, but I never saw you install a pin switch for the trunk. Did I miss a step or did you leave that step out of your illustration? Also is the trunk pin switch a part of the alarm package from BMW?

The Alarm uses the same mechanism as does the car, that alerts you the trunk is open.

I have to look, but I believe their is a switch in the trunk latching hardware.

Yes, the alarm uses the existing switches in the door and trunk latches.
