Just Got The Bavarian Soundwerks Stage 1 Speaker System!
http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/pr...ble-08-E82E88/
Got my car back from the drop off date after 2 days. Quick and Easy. When I got my car back, I didn't notice a difference in looks, but as soon as I put on some music and raised the volume, the difference was amazing. First thing i noticed was you could clearly hear the singer without any distortion. There is an incredible difference between the stock speakers and the BSW HiFi/Professional Audio system. The speakers give the music rich, warm tone and make it sound incredibly lifelike. I remember when i had the stock speakers, I would always have to turn the volume down about 4 notches from full, because i hated all the static noise in the background, and I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. Now with these new speakers I can listen to whatever sound I want at full volume and I'm very impressed and very happy with the sound quality. I promise you that you will be amazed by these speakers. Don't forget this speaker upgrade is good for both E82's and E88's The stage 1 system replaces the front door and rear deck tweeters (4) and the front door and rear deck midranges (4) The speaker system works beautifully off the stock amplifier, but there is an amp in development and i will update you all when it is finished. Questions anyone?

The website lists an amp upgrade for the stage 1 speakers, is that what you are referring to?

The bass is normal, for the stage 1 system does not include an Amp or a Bass Upgrade. The Amp upgrade is in development and will *hopefully* be done around mid-late summer assuming everything goes according to plan. Quote:
It really was amazing how great my music sounded once I got it back, even for just a speaker upgrade. I even compared it to my brothers car (he has an e90 328i that he swapped the amplifier in) and he was amazed how nice it sounded. I can only imagine how much better it will sound once the amplifier upgrade is complete also. The guys at BSW do an awesome job with their audio systems

It sure does.
I checked out the site and didnt see any specs on the speakers. I would much rather use known, high quality, brand name speakers in my car than some off brand, dont know what you're getting stuff. And I can't imagine them sounding better than the Hi-Fi speakers already installed, especially using the factory amp. I'll pass. Last edited by NYC6; 02-01-2010 at 04:17 PM.. |

Yea the specs aren't listed on the website, but they are designed to work well with the stock headunit, which they do! And BSW isn't some off brand company, I've seen them in a few magazines, including Roundel Magazine. Don't forget there's different stage 1 upgrades, and yes, even with the stock amp they sound great! But like i said before, an amp is in development as we speak!

i think they are probably the best option for people who don't want to mess too much with their cars
esp when their stage 2 amp comes out so it's a compromise not as good as aftermarket but a lot less hassle than aftermarket |

Bavarian Sound Werks (BSW) IS aftermarket. They are not Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). The pictures and description of their speakers on their website look good. But that doesn't say a lot. I did not see discussion of the crossover, which is a bit of a concern. I would also love to see the frequency response in the car. That can be "fixed" with equalization but it is better not to have to adjust things a lot.
Aftermarket is a very wide open category. You can get aftermarket coaxial speakers that are probably better than what is in the base system for $50/pair. I do not know what the top end component speakers would be but I would think they are around 10 times this much. The BSW system is about what I've seen advertised for relatively inexpensive component 4 inch speakers. I've seen others twice as much and haven't looked that seriously. If they are at the reasonable end of the component speaker pricing, you have a right to expect better than OEM, perhaps, but if they sound as good as speakers costing twice as much, they would be an outstanding deal - normally you get about what you pay for. You also have to give BSW some credit for making a plug and play system for our cars complete with instructions. I believe they moderate the car audio forum for Bimmerfest. I would give them the benefit of the doubt if they are trying to provide quality products for our cars. Jim

I received my Stage 1 upgrade yesterday, went to install it today, not so happy.
First, the instructions are not in the box, but you are advised to go to the web site and download them. Problem is, they aren't posted on the web site, as they are with some of BSW's other products. And they're closed on Saturday. If anyone has these instructions, or can give me a link, I'll be eternally grateful. But, ever the intrepid installer, I got the speaker installation directions from the BMW TIS manual. Back in business, at least until I got to the rear speakers. Fronts were no problem, beyond pulling the door trim, and the rear looked to be really easy. But wait! The rear tweeters don't have compatible connectors to the mid-ranges, despite both being BSW units. The mid-range has the same connectors as the front, that is a simple black locking connector for the tweeter. The tweeters, on the other hand, have some extra heavy duty wires with "snap connectors". (One wire male, one female, Radio Shack type stuff.) No way to connect these to the mid-range connector. And yes, I did check the shipping box and all 3 inner boxes to see if there might be an adapter. (Remember, I have no instructions so I have no idea whether they use an adapter. It would be sloppy, but not unheard of.) Now I COULD cut the connectors off both speakers, check to verify that I'm hooking them up in phase, and install my own connectors, but that really isn't the "plug and play connectors" BSW advertises. And while I'm at it, I paid for this crap over a month ago as a "pre-order" at a special reduced price of $419, marked down from $589. Great deal, except that they are now in stock and selling at the same $419 price. Fer Crisesakes they could at least raise the price $10 so the pre-orderers don't feel like idiots. So, to summarize, no instructions included, the online instructions they reference don't seem to exist, and the connectors are not compatible between the BSW mids & tweeters. And no support on weekends, when DIYers will be installing. |

Yes, and perhaps the OP will know now what to correctly answer, as all 1-Series have a Professional OEM HU.

davemohan,
Sorry to hear it was not really "plug and play". Did you get them installed? How do you think they sound? Jim

Still no answer from the OP about what his base stereo option was when he purchased the car. This thread is worthless without said information.
