Well... now we know why the car was spotted in Spain last week! This looks to be the same (private) Spanish track/car club that was featured in Jeremey Clarkson's last DVD.

The new M looks great. So... Scott I am in Germany... can I sign up for that test drive? :P

Unfortunately we cannot replicate the overall project as was the E30 M3. This is not possible because of safety requirements and other regulations have made this today nigh on impossible. What we can do is try to replicate the feel and focus the E30 delivered on the road and track, from what I have learned is that the car is not just an faster 135i although the 135i is a very good car to begin with particular attention is being taken especially to the mechanical set-up and the steering.

Can anyone tell if they are 18" or 19" wheels on the car. I can't read the numbers on the tyres. They look like 19's to me.

I for one thank you Scott for sharing this with us. As of right now I'm leaning towards an M3 sedan for the practicality but I must say after watching the video I am very curious to see what this 1M will do.

I know the time may not be here yet but to get us really excited we need numbers, facts, comparison.

Even very abstract kind works:

like x amount of aluminum components used,
hours spent on re-engineering the e81 for M,
y amount of carbon fiber,
reflex time of the new transmission,
x% lighter than 135i, etc.

figures we can chew on and discuss. Otherwise I guess we really have to take it on blind faith its going to be awesome and convo will end quite quickly

There's a good example of what can be done though. If 1M to 135i is what Boxster SpyderS to Boxster S then its a done deal for me.

This car looks MUCH better than the 135i!

The wider fenders, and fascia really give the shrunken body style the attitude it needs.

My guess is that this will handle better than an e92 m3, but it will be de-tuned so that it doesn't perform quite as well. There's no way that BMW would make the 1 series faster than their flag ship sports coupe. This is why MBZ never offered the supercharged v8 in their SLK55, and have yet to put the 6.3 in it.
