Over the last few days it has come to our attention that there is an issue with the power supply on the LUX H8 and 1 Series lights. Due to this, we are issuing a recall on the effected products. All existing customers that have lighting that falls under the recall have also been sent an email regarding it. Below is a link to the recall process with instructions on what you need to do in order to have the issue taken care of. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Price shipped? How do these compare to the weisslicht in price/install/brightness (however it's spelled)? Are all of the issues with these fixed?

Since I actually saw the products I can say the following:

def new fuse but wires are so thin no need to cut housing but instead, it hugs the rubber seal. Yes, the fuse hangs out but I helped another member with concealing it and it was a piece of cake! Btw, LUX is second only to HIDs. Like HIDs wires hangs out but the comparison stops there. LUX does not req. Cutting to the housing.

so now stuff has to hang outside the housing???

my lights are being replaced because water got in them already, this doesn't seem to be something that will help.

Also, I thought someone did some tests and found out the temps are much hotter inside the engine bay (near the headlights), than inside the headlight housing?

Let me try to answer all these questions in 1.

Yes the power supply and fuse do need to be outside the headlight housing now. We have found that the temps inside the headlight can be greater, especially when then power supply is close to/touching the LED's and heatink.

The wires are 22 guage so they are very thin. These will easily fit through the original gasket and will not cause any potential leaking problems. i have done tests with the original seal and they are still very waterproof even with the wires coming through them.

Brightness - this is by far the brightest LED based angel eye upgrade out there. I cant find any pictures of the other unit mentioned, but if you look at the design of the LUX, it is made out of pure aluminum to allow for maximum heat dispersion. this allows the LED's to be driven hard which produces quite a lot of light. When testing the light for quality control i wear a pair of Very dark red glasses so that i dont see spots after looking at these for more then a split second.

have you done tests on 2010 builds (MY's 2010 & 2011)? I am told by BMW NA and the dealership techs that these are the ones leaking consistently and retaining a lot of condensation in the housings which I'm sure would be intensified by any breech in the seal of the backing of them.

I had only done tests on the one headlight that i have.

I didnt know about any issues with the 2010+2011 year cars. I do know however that the wires used in the LUX kit are extremely thin, so it will not make the headlight leak from the LUX.

I understand what you're saying but like I said, mine were leaking without the Lux or any other headlight so I'm just worried the added, even super thin, wiring will be the cause of another headlight replacement.

Let me ask my buddy, he has a 2010 and I installed LUX for him. Then again I am in San Diego, and you are not...

was his a 2010 build date or MY2010 because I'm pretty sure the memo they gave me said 2010 builds had the problem.

Yup i understand. If your headlights are leaking, then they are leaking. What i was trying to say was that the LUX will not be a cause of a leak.

hmmm that I am not sure. He has the ugly looking side mirrors as opposed to the original ones. But Marc is right though, if you have a faulty headlight cover, you have a faulty headlight cover, the LUX wouldnt really make it any worse than it already is...

BTW... I am just an AE guy, not all all affiliated with LUX and or their products

oh yeah, I didn't mean to insinuate they would CAUSE the leak but they would most likely contribute if these headlights coming out lately have been faulty already. I would really love to order a set, actually my buddy Noel was talking to you last week about all of this. I just don't know if I wanna risk another leak is all.

well, with your car, i would first find out where the leak is coming from. If the leak is coming from the back cover, then i would definately wait on getting a set of LUX. if the leak is coming from one of the venting ports, or from something else, then i would say there will be no problems in installing a set of LUX.

BMW is having a set of new lights sent in from Germany to replace them with. Hopefully they've corrected the problem so I'll test it out with a few car washes and see what is going on. I'd also hate to buy a set, install them and then have the new lights also be faulty and end up ruining them and wasting $.
