OT : GoPro Hero2 HD

Hi All - Finally got around to buying a GP H2 HD in the motorsport pack with suction mount.

Initial tests indicate the HD quality and colour reproduction is brilliant.

Just wish I still had my M3 to mount it to

Anyone else using a GP H2 HD?

I'm planning on getting one once I'm settled into Canberra. Coincidentally when heading down a couple of weeks ago I was behind a GoPro vehicle.

I've read reviews of it and they report the same as you have.

Can I ask where you purchased yours from?

I've got one and love it.

I want a tow hook mount though so I get a better view with a better sense of real speed and sound.

I don't trust the suction mounts on the outside.

I've got the ProHD Hero and its great for vids etc, but i find it very hard to keep the audio. I get alot of wind noise no matter which casing i put on it etc.

What editing software to people use? The vids on youtube with the HD hero seems to preserve the engine noise etc without the wind noise. Can't quite figure it out....

Hi Tay..... Camera House...They're Australia-wide so just give them a call. I was pretty lucky though as they are in short supply. I paid $399 for the motorsport kit. It's $299 plus $90 FedEx from GoPro USA so it's hardly worth the effort buying online....I'm a bit impatient and want things immediately . I also picked up a 32Gb Class 10 SD card - good for just under 5 hours at 1080p. Battery only supposed to last 2.5 hours but you can get a piggyback battery pack.

Not so impressed with the audio. I figure it's got something to do with the waterproof casing muffling the sound. I guess the YouTube vids have a fair bit of post processing and foley stuff.

I use iMovie '11 but my nephew uses Final Cut Pro and he gets awesome results. He's a teenage skateboarder and he uses some slo-mo software that gives as good as the GoPro promo vids.

Just use a length of parachute cord or string as a backup.

Digital Camera Warehouse has them for $369 which is currently the best price from an Aussie reseller.

I really enjoy using mine. Once you get used to navigating through the menus the rest is all about getting out and recording some action!

Vin, I should share with you the video i took recently... i had the camera mounted on the bonnet and it didn't move an inch. Although it captured some sense of speed it could be better/more dramatic... so i have thought of a way to make that happen - it's potentially marketable

Having just reviewed some of the in-car filming (default settings), both are adequate for instructional purposes. The Hero2 provides enhanced video quality over the original (not dissimilar to Youtube 720 vs 480 resolution), and the audio still sounds muffled or somewhat attentuated for both (supposing there are drivers who listen to background music while on the circuit).

Fatboy, still have footage where you decline to be overtaken. Furthermore, and with your recent upgrades, it seems that any opportunity to be overtaken has now passed

That's a good back-up but it's mainly for track use, I'm not sure if it would be allowed or not.

Did you use the standard suction mount? It does seem quite strong but I'm a bit hesitant. I also got a few other mounts with a sticky adhesive but I don't wan to put that on the paintwork. I think the ideal location is the tow hook mount because of how low it sits, it will give a really good sense of speed.

Btw, I'd be keen to see your videos

The suction cup mounts work a treat and do not fail. Try them out.

I get all mine online from USA, cheaper.

The suctions mounts are awesome, I've put them on my 135 and have had it over 200km/h lap after lap. The sticky tabs are great too, stuck them on the top of my helmet and had my kart up to 160 odd and they just keep on holding.

Ive also mounted a sticky one under the front bar where the number plate sits. It gets a great view but the road flying past that fast doesnt look that hot due to compression and how fast its moving.

mounted on the front behind the front wheel. check out the tyre deforming

I may give the suction cap a test run around my local streets. Do you think it will be allowed at the track? I'd like to put it on the front bumper down low.

I have the Contour GPS.

Great when it works, but I still have issues.

Eg - drfit sessions (sorry skid pan training) at Mt Cotton today. Did two sessions with the camera seemingly working and the vamera roof mounted with the suction cup (too wet and diesel laid down so I wasn't putting it on a low mount today).
At the end of the second session the unit was dead, totally non responsive.

Put a new battery in and it seemed fine. Took it off the car and had my passenger do some hand held footage from the viewing deck.

When I arrived home just now - I have no footage on the SD card from before it died. Just the two tests and the one run from after installing the second battery.
WTF. This is the second time this has happened.
Tempted to take it back but there is only a 2 week hand back warranty at Teds Camera House.
I shoudl have done it back at the start when I had two faulty units (one GPS, one battery swollen and stuck inside). They offerred me the Go Pro then but I thought it looked like cheap plastic and the Contour looked like a Maglite.

Have logged a call with the contour website - they have been very responsive so far with problems - the issue is there have been soooo many problems for them to respond to.

I've got 4 of them, they work a treat. The suction mount works no problems on the car (it works on my jetski). I got mine OS about 2 months ago as even with shipping LCD screen etc it was miles in front of the local pricing (and there weren't any available).

Great thanks - i'll take at look into that software and see what the difference is. I'm using Power Director 9 atm.

I've also been scared to mount outside the car and have considered having a backup string... but the thought of the whole unit becoming detached and subsequently swinging around denting my panels is an even worst outcome! Clearly the mounts are pretty secured given what others have said and the vids i've seen. Is just a trust thing.
