Or you may have 2 to 6 minutes. It can come on very suddenly or with months of warning signs.

I got a 60 second warning in the form of the fans blasting while sitting in a drive through before the codes popped and the car went limp. Consider 2 minutes lucky. :P

I now know my battery is due for a replacement, without starting the car, it goes to 11.7v in 5 days.

It's probably my water pump failing, but could be related to the battery too : i found two threads on other forums of people getting the 2EE6 code and this problem because of a bad battery.

The limp mode didn't pop on the dashboard, nor in the DME codes (only 2EE6). I just felt it was like a limp mode (less power like turbo were disabled)

My car is 65000 miles (so that matches with a water pump life duration), and i don't know if the water pump has already been changed, i assume it's the first one.

I will update if it happens again and thank you for all answers

The battery is definitely easier to replace and cheaper...always do the easiest thing first if its related to your problem...and could extend the water pump from failing immediately...as predicted above.

Replaced old battery with a new battery (same specs), i tested it OK and charged it to 100% prior to install.

Installed it, registered it with MHD.

Still getting "high battery drain" each time i get in the car. Cranking is perfect (battery is new).

According a real high battery drain could not happen in 2 minutes with a new and fully charged battery, i suspected IBS.

I then unplugged the IBS in the trunk, no more message, i guess i should have replaced the IBS sensor instead of my battery (it was not new but still ok).

Now i will use my car with the IBS unplugged until i could replace the IBS.

The fan blowing happened once again, so i guess now, i am due for a water pump + a new IBS cable.

Hello,

I may have spoken too fast.

After reading this link

https://bimmerscan.com/bmw-intellige...ry-sensor-ibs/

and particulary this :

"The current SoC/battery data is stored in the IBS every 2 hours over a 6 hour time frame, providing 3-2 hour snapshots of battery SoC information. The stored information/snap-shot data is overwritten every 6 hours. Whenever KL15 is activated the IBS updates the DME with the current closed circuit histogram/battery status information, by way of the BSD. Upon obtaining updated information the DME evaluates the new data and if a closed-circuit current draw is identified a fault will be stored in the fault memory of the DME."

I decided to give a try, and replug IBS and let the car rest over night (at least 6 hours).

When i took my car the next morning, no more battery drain message.

So I erased all INPA codes, and will report if it happens again.

So do you have a scanner? and if so wouldn't it show an IBS fault? I use a cheap c110 and it showed an IBS fault, so I replaced the IBS and no more fault, this was in August...

I have a laptop with INPA.

Yes it showed a IBS fault ( code : 2E8E ), but i don't know if it's because i unplugged the IBS or a real IBS fault, so i deleted all fault and will see , but no more codes for the moment and IBS is plugged.

OK let's see and thanks for the updated, fairly complex issue...seems the water pump is ok for now.

Were you able to solve the problem? What was the reason?

May want to get a battery charger/reconditioner and hook it up to ensure the battery is at full capacity.
