Nice! Looks like your build is coming along nicely. I'd love to see where you stack up.

Finally.

I received my Doc Race intake manifold last night! You could order it in black, silver, red or blue. I opted for silver because I'm not a huge fan of colors, but wanted it to "pop". It matches the turbo compressor housing nicely. I'm going to take a sanding pad to the raised logo... should give it a nice brushed finished. Anyway, here are some tabletop pics.

I couldn't help but to set it on top of the factory intake manifold to get an idea of what it will look like once installed...

(not actually installed)

(not actually installed)

Stay tuned for a "first impressions" video on my YouTube channel. I'm also planning a full installation DIY video, along with a same day back-to-back dyno session to see the exact gains this intake manifold provides. The custom charge pipe and port injection accessories should be arriving later today. Stay tuned!

Oh, and I filmed a overview video of my garage setup for those who are curious.

If you don't care about the garage, I took the 1-series for a spin with some WOT pulls, because who doesn't like that?

The rest of the Doc Race intake manifold kit showed up yesterday. Here are some cell phone pictures of everything. Hoping to get around to installing it next weekend.

Seriously impressive looking manifold, charge pipe, and hardware. As far as aesthetics go, they knocked it out of the park with this one. That should finish off your engine bay nicely. Looking forward as always to the DIY and impressions.

BTW, absolutely loved the garage video. Looks to be fully functional without going overkill. A small lift would really complete things!

Thanks guys! I finally got around to installing my Doc Race intake manifold This past Saturday.

I put together a very detailed write-up with a required parts list, DIY installation and dyno data. Check it out now:
http://my1series.com/2018/08/14/doc-...-dyno-results/

For a brief overview, here are some photos and a video.

Here's a graph I overlaid with the stock manifold vs Doc Race manifold. It favors the stock manifold for ambient temperature and spool RPM, but gives you an idea of the power it picks up in the midrange. This is good power under the curve. +49whp and +47wtq at 5500 RPMs. I will eventually go back to the dyno and do a 29psi pull in 70*F weather starting at 2000 RPMs with the Doc Race intake manifold for a more apples-to-apples comparison.

I tried to get a same-day dyno results against the stock manifold but I ran into some hiccups and the manifold took a lot longer to install than I anticipated.

It picked up 7whp and 20wtq at 26psi with the same tune, but unfortunately it was 20*F hotter outside this time. It also gained almost 50wtq at high boost. I do plan on going back in a couple weeks on a cool morning to get more apples-to-apples results.

Looking great man, thanks for being so detailed! How much do you expect the stock N54 to handle with this setup?

I just did an oil change before installing the manifold and the oil came out gold still. No metal flakes or discoloration. I cut open the oil filter and it was spotless.

However, I definitely think I'm pushing the limits. I don't expect it to hold up at high boost forever. I try to keep an eye on everything the best I can and do frequent oil changes.

Had a blast at the 1/4 mile drag event yesterday! Managed to take home the 6 cylinder class ($200 cash and $200 tattoo credit!)

Tough being a 6MT, and I gotta get that launch down. I didn't use 2-step because the two other times I tried using it, I snapped an axle each time. Maybe one day I’ll upgrade axles and get a transmission that doesn’t lock me out of 2nd gear. Until then I’m gonna keep enjoying the car for what it is; a great street car that can do 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, autocross, road course and still be daily driven!

PS: Turns out this little Dragy device is pretty accurate! If you're on the fence about one, get one from BMS today.

My 60-130mph time at the track was about 1 second slower than on the street. Not sure if it was because of the hot weather or what (130°F IATs). Trap speed is there, but I know the car has a better ET in it.

Solid runs man. Curious what your launch technique is with this setup? You have a WOT box too right?

What tattoo are you going to get now??? Lol

I was just slipping the clutch quickly at 4500RPMs or so. I have JB4 NLS that I used on some runs, but it's not the same as a WOTbox.

Those are some crazy cars. 620hp n/a z06 is ridiculous. And 44lbs of boost on that evo is just nasty. I'm super impressed by how often you drive this thing and how it's held up! I'm assuming that safety map switch was just overboost? On a side note, you should definitely get a windsock man the audio was kind of painful haha

For sure, both of those cars were pretty nasty. And I drive mine hard, been holding up great so far. The safety map switch was indeed overboost, so no worries there.

I have a windsock on my small Rode mic, but it didn't seem to help at all there. I'm gonna have to get something better or just roll the windows up in the future. The video definitely got some wind noise complaints on YouTube, lol.

As we all know, the 6MT has been plagued with shift bog issues for years that no tuner has been able to figure out. The more power you add, the more noticeable the lag/bog is. It feels like the car hits a wall of bricks post-shift, then takes forever to get back into power. During a race, I lose a lot of ground during shifts.

I've tried a handful of suggested "shift bog fixes", but none of them really worked. So, when this was announced, I didn't have high expectations. I loaded it up yesterday and tried it on my way to work this morning. Well, it works! I had the biggest shit-eating grin on my face. The car actually responds to fast shifts and feels like it should.

The only problem... it works so good that I found my Spec Stage 3+ clutch slipping after a hard shift. It wouldn't grab at all in the next gear, just revved to the moon. Kind of disappointing considering the clutch has between 3-5k miles on it (hard miles, none-the-less). I'm sure it doesn't help that I have the drag radials on the car right now, meaning it's gripping very well. The car would never spin or chirp tire between the 1-2 shift or 2-3 shift and I'm sure it will now once I address the clutch. Other people have reported snapped axles between shifts at high power this morning. At this point, I don't care about the potential damages... the manual transmission has finally been unlocked.

Well, the clutch holds the 3-4 shift but doesn't hold up as well on the 2-3 shift. Since the 3-4 shift is fine, I wanted to test my 60-130 time again.

This was my best time BEFORE the shift bog fix.

This is my first try AFTER the shift bog fix.

As you can see, I knocked off 0.3 sec with the fix alone! You can also see the blue line has much less lag in the middle (3-4 shift). The best part about this*is that my 3rd gear was actually stronger in the "before" pull as you can see by the 60-70, 60-80, 60-90, 60-100 times. This means I picked up all of the 0.3 difference with the faster shift, and that there is even more on the table. I think with some fine tuning, I'll be able to get a very low 6 second pass on a cold night with a low tank of gas.

Right! I'm happy that I ended up with this one and not the one from New York. The only thing I'm not in love with is the color, but I can live with that.

I was daily driving the 1-series for about two weeks while I was looking for this car. It drives great. I think there is still a little gremlin in bank 1, but it hasn't shown up in weeks. Haven't done anything exciting with the car, hence the lack of updates. Life has been busy.
