Bat 2012 128 6mt $16,000
Just sold on BAT a 2012 [but it was delivered July 2011-strange] with about 48K miles. Extremely nice, clean & looks like no winter driving. 6 speed manual but no sport pkg and run flats. $16,000.00

Yes, amazing. BaT has seen a LOT of inflated prices recently. I followed this one, just being curious. Thought it would top out $12-13, but NOOOOOO!

It may sound crazy but seeing what people are paying for some of these 128i's has me considering listing mine... It'd be a shame to miss out on a good profitable flip but even more of a shame having to find another vehicle to daily :groan:

Colors that often couldn't be given away when they were new on the lot are now considered "rare". Two people obviously had a hard-on for that One! (pun intended)
I'm just enjoying seeing these getting the respect they've always deserved. Makes me think I can mile-up the two I have and not be forced to just junk them in the end. |

Any small rust free BMW with a manual tranny will increase in value. I think it's impossible right now to buy a nice E30 for under $10K.

The dealer that listed the car is notorious for dry ice blasting and painting little pieces on the underside on cars he flips.
Funny they refused to take my much better spec'ed 128i (M Sport 6MT) a couple years ago. 1600veloce has it made in the shade..

Meanwhile, the dealer in Padukah who moved 1 a month was told to take the Vermilion Red allocation or nothing at all and had to sell it with cash on the hood to the mayor for his daughter's homecoming present. Oddly specific, I know.

There are very rare times when BMW simply sends you a car. Mostly they offer allocations that the dealership builds the way they want to. Believe it or not, even the choice of manual versus 2-pedal is still the dealers' decision to make when the choice exists. As is AWD vs. RWD. Usually half of the cars I sell each month are special-ordered and built to the customer spec, but that's because most of what we sell are SUVs these days and I can get a car built to order from Spartanburg sometimes in less than two weeks. Or hard enough to get that the customer builds his/her new car for a future production spot. Currently we have an M2 Comp in a 6-speed with Performance Exhaust and Carbon Fiber rear spoiler that is one we built ourselves for stock. Most regions have a standard build they do for their cars they can provide to dealers who are short of inventory and those are, these days, mostly white X3s with Sensatech interiors and very little optional equipment. It is highly unlikely that a Vermilion 128i stick was an extra car from a regional allocation. I can even check when I'm at work and tell you who the Vermilion car was ordered for, just like I can tell you my wife's '08 128i Sport auto in AW with black leather sport seats was ordered for a woman named Kimberly to pickup in Europe. Or that my 2013 128i AW with black leather M-sport 6M was originally ordered for a dude named Nick in Milwaukee and picked it up within 3-days of arriving at the dealership in October 2012. That's a de facto sample of two 128is in my driveway special ordered for customers in Alpine White. |

BAT to me isn’t really for the enthusiast anymore. They cater to dealers and high dollar clients who have way too much money to spend on used cars. |

You guys think he's nuts for paying that? Buddy of mine traded in a 328xi 6mt at Carmax for 1500 bucks and bought a 128i automatic BASE everything manual everything no xenons or anything with 25k miles for 22k. I believe it's a 2011 or 10

I'm so happy I picked up my 1er when I did. Prices dropped for maybe a year after I bought mine and then they shot through the roof. I feel bad for people trying to find one now. Mine was a one-owner that had always been serviced at the original dealer who was also the one selling it.

this is awesome, some respect and perhaps the depreciation of our rides will stop. I can only see this as a good thing for those who already have these rare rides.

Oh, that time is already upon us. Three years ago I paid $10.9k for a 1-owner 68k-mile Sport from Oklahoma that was always serviced at the dealer who sold it to me and supplied me the service records. That car today is easily $15k. Unfortunately for anyone in the market, I wouldn't sell it if you offered me $25k. Offer $30k and I might start wavering.
I wonder how much of the price increase is just "Covid tax" and how much is appreciation. Considering that the enthusiast trims are commanding far higher prices (manual, slicktop, Sport/M Sport), I would say the 128i is genuinely appreciating in value.

The new found love for the 128i has made me seriously consider if now is the time to jump to a 135i. I have been the BMW "purist" for quite some time now, but am also a 90's child that grew up on Fast & Furious movies. I have been getting an itch to build a 450+ hp N54 135i for some time now. I may need to make a move soon....
