If its never been winter driven (salt) and you have all maintenance records, it's 6k to 8K. Otherwise, your price is very fair. All the miles mean its been driven and maintained.

Dealers are pretty equal-opportunity about who they screw over, don't worry about that!
$6K is totally doable if your car runs and drives. 135 is a fairly niche car so you may have to wait for someone in the market to show up even at a very fair price, that's all. |

That would be an awesome car for 3500 bucks, hard to believe it'd only be that worth that much even with so many miles. Especially with a manual.
The cheapest manual 135i's on cargurus are listed 9 and 10k right now so I don't see why you couldn't get 6k if the right buyer comes along. Has the clutch been done recently? |

Buying and selling used cars definitely ain't for everyone. Selling privately will probably get you a better price than trading in at the dealer. They (the dealer) are in it to buy low and sell high. Getting a PPI before you buy gives one a little better confidence in what your getting. If your not comfortable by yourself, how about going with someone you know that's in the car business and just shop around?

Unfortunately the mileage would be a huge turn off for most buyers, despite how well maintained or optioned the car is. Sadly there's no way to ignore the odometer. If it was mine and:
1) I didn't have room for two cars/couldn't justify insurance on both; 2) Needed the extra money for a down payment on a new car Then I'd take the highest offer above $5500 and let it go. In this scenario, you're trying to take whatever you can get and cut yourself from further losses (ie. keeping it as a secondary vehicle - repairs, fuel, insurance, etc). Just my $0.02.

Yes. Mileage is killing you. BMWs have a reputation for massive and expensive maintenance when the miles pile on.
If you don't want the hassle of selling the car yourself, consider the various car buying services out there. You won't get the maximum value for your car if you had sold it yourself but you certainly won't get raped by a dealer factoring in their mark up needs. I sold my 94 Z28 to We Buy Any Car for more than double what CarMax offered. The BMW dealer I bought my 135i which was to replace the Z28 politely gave me the hint they weren't really interested in having it as a trade. |

I fell in love with the 340i but I need to sell my car as I don't want to have two cars on my insurance. I'm going to look into We Buy Any Car. I'll also look into posting a feeler on this website. |

Definitely post here and, for $48, join BMWCCA and post (free) on their site. I just helped a neighbour sell their 128 6MT to an enthusiast and both parties are very happy. I'm almost positive you'll get your price on BMWCCA. And, I say again, high miles, yes but everything has been fixed and it's obviously been well maintained.

The fact that it is on the original clutch is the main selling point. It is good (will bring buyers in) and bad (will negatively affect the offers you get). Good since it indicates you didn't drop the clutch at redline, and abuse the car. Bad since it means the new owner will probably be on the hook for one in the near future.
If you can swing two cars for a few months, buy what you want and then put it up for sale. If two would be a parking and insurance hassle, selling it privately and then finding the next car may result in you buying something you are not thrilled with. Getting a few thousand more by selling it before you find something else may bite you in the long run.

That'll actually get you a decent discount. And you may be able to declare low miles driven on BOTH vehicles for a further discount. When I bought my 128i, I had my 330Ci policy and it only added ~25% to the bill. The 330Ci was cheap to keep around until I wanted to sell it. Call your agent and ask them what cost would be for this scenario and let them know one or both of the cars will see low miles and ask what their threshold is (for StateFarm it's 7500/yr).
