Sports seats retrofit

Hi Guys,
I successfully swapped my sports seats from my 328i (LCI with active headrests; I'm selling her) to my 128i (with no active headrests). The seats were a plug and play, with all components working correctly. The right seat base is the sport seat.

I also swapped the heated seat switches and cable from my 328i and it worked without issue (which was a relief after reading everyone's issues).

The only problem I have is that the airbag warning is on, in both the 3 and 1 series. I disconnected the battery before I touched any cables so I'm not sure what is up. My Carly app could not switch off the warnings but the following codes came up:
128i
0093BF and 0093CO, driver and passenger seat position sensor.

328i
0093AE ZK6 Active headset
0093AF ZK7 Active restraint law.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing something? Can I just get this coded out? Any experts out there?

I recently swapped in sport seats myself and had the same issue with airbag light. My seatbelt light also came on at the same time. My theory is that even though I disconnected the battery before swapping seats, it may be possible I didn't let the car sit long enough before unplugging the seats. Maybe there was enough charge left in the electrical system for it to register the broken circuit.

I picked up a $50ish diagnostic tool for BMWs off of Amazon and was able to clear the code. It's been a couple hundred miles and so far no light.

Both the seats I took out and the ones I put in are manual and don't have the seat module that yours do. I don't know if the more advanced modules need any further coding.

Do you have the details of the code reader you purchased and a link?

I think this might be because my E92 (LCI) has active headrests and the 128 does not. Would this seem plausible? Now the big question is what can I do about it?

First post edited with error codes. Any input is greatly appreciated.

This is the the one I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It seems pretty cheaply made but it worked for me.

I hadn't thought of that, but I could see the active headrests complicating things. There may be some differences in the seat harnesses/connector pin-outs. have you came across this thread yet?:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480313

I don't recall if they get into anything with the LCI but there's a lot of info in there. It was helpful for figuring how to get power side bolsters in my sport seats.

resolved

So I finally resolved my airbag issue. Both cars were looking for different things with the airbags, but they both used the same single port to plug into.
The 128i was looking for seat position sensors. These inform the airbag system how close the seat is to the steering wheel and decide whether it is safe to deploy the airbags. I found two little plastic sensors on the seat rails (inside yellow oval in picture) and after switching these to the 328 sports seats the dash airbag warning went out, I didn't even have to reset it. So sports seats swap from my 328 into my 128 successful!

Next I had to get the 128 seats working in the 328 so that I could sell the car. I realized that the 328 seats have active headrests and the 128 does not. So I stripped the 328 seats down to remove the active headrest and wiring and wired that up to the 128 seats......voila, communication was successful.

What a relief. I hope this information is useful to others. In short, I successfully transplanted heated sports seats (with ai bolsters and lumber etc) from my aging 328 into a 128.

It should be pretty straight forward given that your car already has the hardware. Just make sure you disconnect the battery first and that should help with airbag warning signs. Hopefully my issues, listed above, should help you.

I had the same issue swapping 335i seats into my 135i. Same codes for seat position sensor, took sensors off my old seats. Guy who bought my seats had active headrests, so needed to swap them over from his standard seats. Work as you said.

I know that the seat occupancy sensor in the passenger seat can be finicky without coding. It will throw a code from a comfort-sport seat swap as well as a model swap.

I put F22 seats in my car and I had to swap the position sensors over and code out the occupancy sensor for everything to be code free.

I didn’t have to do any coding for my e92 seats to work in my 1series, just the stuff mentioned above.

I'm doing this with m3 seats. I moved over the seatbelt positioning center from my comfort seat to the M3 seat just now, is there one or two sensors per seat? I was only able to find one (the thing circled in the photo above). I still have the light and MHD can't read it, did you guys use carly to clear?

I found an e90 sports seat with all the same electrics as my seat I have in my 128i. Has anyone done a seat swap from e90 to an e82?

[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Pics above are an e92 and e90 seat. They look identical. Just want to make sure it's possible to fit an e90 seat in my 128i.

Just did a seat swap off a e92 onto my e82. Confirmed everything bolts right in and every function works. (heat, power, memory, lumbar, side bolster). My original seats already have all the power function so not sure if it'll work for you if you don't already have those functions on the original seat. Only thing I had to do was to swap the seat position sensor like Dalecan said, and reset the airbag light with my carly and no issues so far!

Hey guys, I’m attempting to do this swap from an e90 330i 06, to my 2011 128i. I picked up some sport seats on a deal from a junker that needed some cleaning and care, got them looking great and totally disinfected/clean. But it appears that they don’t line up with the Torx holes? As well I’m missing one little black plug on the harness compared to the standard heated seats. Any way hope you guys can help, thanks. Not sure how to attach images but have some if that would help.

I think you're the guy from Facebook, if they are e90 they might not match up, I don't know if sedan seats are the same as coupe. e92 seats should fit.
