Removing Interior Plastic Scratches?

Hi. I just bought a 2008 135i. There are some light scratches near the cup holders. Any suggestions on the best way to remove them? Thx!

Unfortunately BMW put a soft-touch rubber coating on the cup holder section of the console, so as it wears it looks like crap. There is a thread here that someone posted, where they took out the center console and cleaned all the soft-touch shit off with a green scrubber pad. I did that, and I don't recommend the green scrubby thing, as it can scratch the plastic. I used just soap water and my fingers, which still makes the rubber coating come off. Getting the rubber coating out of the cup-holder and it's little grabby things is real bitch.

You also cant separate the cup-holder part from the rest of the console as it is plastic-riveted to it. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Everybody loved soft-touch back in the day. They thought it was the bees' knees. Now it's all coming back to haunt us. 10 years later and it's sticky as hell and rubs off on everything (our interiors aren't as bad as some applications).

I HATE soft-touch! He's right. There's no "removing" those scratches. You should just remove the rest of the soft-touch.

Can it be wrapped as a temporary solution? Has anyone tried it?

I'm sure you probably could wrap it, but you would probably need to remove all the existing soft touch crap first. Otherwise it might not adhere properly and look bumpy depending on your level of existing damage.

My centre console was in pretty bad shape around the cup holders, It was peeling all over the place, I was about to order a new centre console but decided to try to remove all that "soft plastic" stuff before ordering it, the worst thing it could happen was that it ended up worse I was able to do it and the result is pretty decent, it looks just like regular black plastic now. much better

I started with 400 sanding paper then 800 and finally 1200 with plastx Meguiars polish

I will post some pictures later at night when I get home

You can use citrus stripper to remove the coating without scratching the plastic (Remove from the car first, of course). Then you can re-paint it with Colorbond LVP in "BMW Black" color and it's a near identical match. I've done this on M3 steering wheel trim which suffers the same issue.
