1M vs. Boss 302

Someone asked me to post my thoughts back awhile ago between my two new cars.

I've had the Boss 302 on both VIR Grand course and on CMP. The 1M I've only had on the Nurbergring, so I won't try to do a complete comparision, but today I drove the Boss after driving the 1M all week.

Both cars are 100% stock and I have driven them on a mix of highway, country roads, city streets, pretty much everywhere.

The best I can do is say the 1M is like driving a Leopard and the Boss is like driving a really pissed off, mad and hungry Grizzly Bear

The 1M is a very civil and well behaved car until you invite the monster out to play by turning off all the nannies and really jumping into the power. It's a great car in every sense of the word and works great for any situation.

The Boss is just a noisy mean-ass car! It's hard not to drive it like a breast. I have the side pipes open and the noise and sheer american muscle looks make it hard to hide anywhere, even in traffic.

I gotta say it may be the best case situation to have both! It's fun to have the guy in the VW behind me taking video of my 1M but it's also fun to have the "locals" givin me the thumbs up when I make the Bear roar.

So if our damn silly elected officials will get their sh!t together and improve the economy, I'll keep both.

Look for track comparo soon.

I don't know anything about the Boss but I guess it is engineered to confirm the title "Boss", I liked the Leopard description about the 1M, it fits.

I REALLY wanted to go with the "tiger" metaphor since it's VO and my daughter calls it "The Tiger" but the Leopard fit better.

The Master at my Tae Kwon Do school paints all his vehicles orange then adds Tiger stripes (Tiger Kim's TKD School). He wants me to stripe it. I gotta admit, it would be kinda cool!

Cool stuff your Tiger Kim's TKD School; try not to repeat some of the moves in the traffic

He started with a orange Hummer H2 and striped it up. Got a TON of attention but he sold it cause it was abit too over the top. Now he has mini buses and a van done that way.

The Hummer was replaced by a more discreet Black Audi S5 and S6. I gotta say this for him, he's got style!

Both cars run in A Stock in SCCA autocross. There is at least one with a good driver locally that will build his for he class. Interested to hear your track thought on the cars. In autox weight will probably make the 1m faster.

Dang, that's a harder question then it should be!

I'm a BMW guy by nature. Currently have several and race E30's so the 1M is the emotional fav. The Boss is the first car I've ever had that approachs muscle car status and it is nice to pop that cherry(now I can buy vette's, CTS-V's, etc)!

That being said, along with the fact that I have dedicated track cars, I think I'd keep the 1M. It's much more user friendly and can be driven in more "ways".

The Boss is 100% worth all the hype and press, it's that good! But it is loud aand it does lack alot of refinement and creature comforts that the 1M has or could have had if I had ordered them.

Points go to the 1M for the more limited nature of distribution and for the fact there won't be another year of production. Heck the 2013 Boss will lack the status of "first year" and won't be hand built by the Ford Racing guys, but it is going to have some nice improvements.

Yep, if push came to shove and Kirk and his buddy don't improve things soon, I guess I'll keep the German. Besides, it's the car I did Oktoberfest and the 'Ring in! Good memories!
