Is it only me, or are some car dealers insane?

I can't believe this, every dealer I look through is asking between 45 and 50 for a BMW 135. Are they kidding?

I am in the south florida area, palm beach/miami. These dealers are out of their minds, who is going to pay 50k for a 135 when I could get a FREAKING M3 for 56k!!??

In times like these prices should be rock bottom, they should be competing for sales, yet they bask in greed...

Sorry for the rant, but I've been waiting over a year for a deal on a 135 and I cant find a car for 34-35 (is that so much to ask?).

Oh and this is probably a

Try contacting some of the supporting dealerships on this site. I did so and found 5 dealerships willing to sell me a brand new 135i for $500 over ED invoice pricing. Unfortunately I decided to hold off on ordering for now but if you need more info PM me. I'd imagine these same dealers would offer a great deal on a US delivery as well.

I don't see why it's not possible to build a 135i to hit 50k.
You don't provide any info on the model and options you want.
If you get a 135 vert with decent amount of options, of course it'll be
around that 45-50 price tag at invoice.

Do your homework...got to Edmunds.com and find out the MSRP and Invoice pricing first with the listed options and model.

MLEE

I have done my homework, been to edmunds, I know what the invoice is on a base 135 6MT with sport package and USB IPOD interface. Its nowhere near 50k, according to the pdf found on this very forum, the invoice is in the 36-37 range.

Yes it is possible to build a 1 series to 50k, but im not talking about fully loaded 135s, I am talking about semi loaded 135s for insane prices. A base 135 6MT with sport package shouldnt exceed 36-37 (or even less if CPO).

Here is the pdf i am talking about.

It is 2009 BMWUSA 1series-Wholesale & ED pricing.PDF

search that and it has all the available options and dealer prices. I am not asking for the dealer to make zero profit, I am just asking for a fair price which to me should be easier to find in the luxury car market these days.

Maybe I'm blind or not looking hard enough.

Thats not what the OP is getting at, I got my 1 for much less than what he is seeing and I got it pretty loaded.

But then again this is what a sales guy is supposed to do, if you show him that you are willing to wait and not take any BS they will come down in price sooner or later.

There are plenty of people on this board that have gotten close to invoice price, whether that's for a stripped down coupe or a decked out 'vert.

Do your homework, come up with a fair quote and FAX it to every dealer within driving distance. Do all of your negotiation via email. If your offer is reasonable and you reach out to enough dealers, someone will bite. Search for the "Payne" method. A lot of us have used it very successfully to get a rock-bottom price. And yes, depending on options, sometimes that's close to 50K.

From what Ive seen most of the 1's they have on the lots are optioned out so they can make more of a profit. That being said, I ordered mine so I wouldnt have to deal with all the ridiculous options they had. Also, I was able to get about 50 buck below invoice plus tax titles and fees in Florida using the payne method.
