Chicagoland Auto-Cross - TSSCC @ Sears Centre 5/22/2011

Coming rapid fire!

Our second event of the season will be held at Sears Centre, conveniently right off of I-90 at the Route 59 exit.

Again, on-site registration is $45 for non-members, but pre-reg through our website www.tsscc.org is only $37! Or take advantage of the 3-pack to reduce that price per event more.

The Sears Centre event will be designed by E-Stock National Tour winner Wes Jenrich and mustache officianado and Focus turbo-charging fool Paul Kola-polish (I think Jeff came up with that shorthand), come on out and support local autocross (and it isn't at Maywood!)

(TSSCC coming to Maywood June 26th)

Also, a quick note about the 3-pack...

Once purchased through paypal, they have to manually be entered by an administrator into the registration system. We are monitoring it, but it's possible if you're trying to do the 3-pack pretty close to the close of registration that the credits won't post in time to register. If you are worried about the timely posting, send us an e-mail at registration@tsscc.org and we'll try to get everything accommodated.

i know this is a thread from an older TSSCC event, but i will be bringing my new 128i out there next weekend for it's first shake down.

picked up the car last week. are you the dude that was out there last event in the black 135?

if you see a white 128 i would appreciate any input on set up. i used to have a BSP EVO so this whole D-Stock NA RWD thing is foreign to me.

hope to see you there.

I'd be glad to, though I've barely sorted out mine and just can't stop running into problems (it's my own fault, I bought used ASTs and should've shipped them all to texas right away to get re-built. Two of the four have *leaked*, not good)

From a "mod-bug" perspective, the cars i think adapt fast to the next level changes. You'll have about 130 lbs less in the car i want to say, so hopefully you don't have to toast the fronts as badly as I did when i ran stock And if the bug hits you, the 128 goes to STX instead of my STU death sentence. I know a handful of STX bimmer people nationally that think the 128 would do really really well.

Did they give the RE-50 Pole Position Run-Flats to the 128 as well for the sport package?

it has a set of P-Zero run flats on it. i ordered a set of O.Z. Ultraleggera's today and 225 RS3's to go with them. they should be in on tuesday.

if i run those i will register as STX instead of DS. the staggered wheels make it tough to find a good set of stock size light wheels. i doubt anyone will care, but i don't wait to raise any eyebrows on track.

the specs say the car is 3200lbs so i do think that is a few lbs lighter than the 135, but coming from the evo i am sure i will have the front end plowing around every corner

my buddy that was driving the black STR s2000, if you remember that car from the last event at the sears centre, will be codriving with me. he has much more experience with lower HP RWD that i do so together i think the three of us should be able to figure this thing out.

i had trouble finding a 128 with a 6 speed within 500 miles of here so the one i picked up is optioned oddly. it has some things that make me think it has the sport and cold weather package, but i think they were all added individually.

the BMW thing is new to me, and i will be the first to admit i know very little about the option packages and what they include.

my EVO was stolen so i was kindof in a time crunch to find a car. this one drove nicely and the price was right, so i pulled the trigger.

from what i understand an LSD is a must, did you put a quaife in yours?

there is no way i will get this car built for a class this year, i just finished getting the EVO BSP preped this year. i figured for the rest of this season i will get used to the car and maybe throw an e93 front sway bar on it. next year i i will probably throw some race tires on the stockers and run DS. i think dollars for grins those hankook z214's in DS look better than dumping a ton of money into my daily to build a competitive STX car.

but who knows, i have only had the car for a week.

I went with an OS Giken LSD.

And yeah, the ST builds add up REAL fast. The wheels are tiny but since r-comps squeeze pretty well, short of finding a good shop that can make a 245 fit onto a 7" wide rim i don't think you'll have rub issues.

do you run with staggered wheel sizes or did you space out the fronts to fit 245's?

i'm running Apex ARC-8's, and unfortunately there is no *true* square setup. The offsets are significantly different, so just say running spacers up front to have the right offset rear would be something like running 20mm spacers.

I've got 255 star specs on 18x9's up front, and 275s on 18x9.5's in back.

i was talking with another dude in a different thread and he warned against putting the e93 front sway bar on. he said daily driving it was nice because the car had better turn in but it made the car push like mad on track. would you agree with that statement?

Well, from a true road race tracking perspective I couldn't be sure. From an autocross perspective, the spring rates are so soft that the simple extra roll resistance outweighs anything negative about a stiff front bar. The car just plain pushes, so there's just no such thing as this car not pushing. If anything it's a good learning tool since with that much bar, you have to be even smoother with your inputs. Slaloms are slaloms, but with every other manuever, you NEED to engage the tires smoothly. With the street tires you notice and feel it, but then with R-comps you don't since the stickiness of the tires allow you to go past the optimal input without much feedback, but all that means is you're slower without knowing why.

so unneccesary diatribe aside...I'd say a stiff front bar is 100% win in autocross. Tracking doesn't have as much transition, so body roll isn't as much a killer as in autocross
