Maybe they didn't use or have PDK (launch control) on TG. Hard to consistently beat the Cayman R with PDK when the difference is only .1 of a second.

Ok... But there is some truth to it in the real world.
Factor in utility, comfort, fuel economy, and the ability to drive the car to work without upstaging the President and CEO.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to own a GT3 or a ZR1, but only if I could properly track the car on a regular basis. Sadly, such a proposition isn't realistic for me at this stage ;-)

This was good for the gee wiz value, but really, any drag racer will tell you the outcome if the car's weight and power is known.

Sure a lot of them have launch control, but if you add in the time to activate launch control, the 1M would win.

The 1M is the proverbial "knife" brought to the "gun" fight in this race. That considered, the knife fared pretty well.

Or, alienating the employees. It may sound incredibly stupid, and I may get some eye rolls, but I work at a small-ish company and our culture helps us recruit some top talent. We've been named one of the best places to work, many times, in many publications, locally and globally.

That's one reason (certainly not the only one) that I've decided twice now, that an ///M is not for me. We pay competitive salaries, but they aren't the highest around, and even though I could afford one, I would not feel right, rolling into the parking lot in a car that expensive. Certainly not in a 911 or a Ferrari, which I may or may not be able to afford (I too get a competitive salary, but far from a top salary).

Now, back to the (relatively pointless) Motortrend rant of the week.

You folks should not let something as stupid as this drag race, or the other Motortrend articles, spoil your experience, even a little. Personally, I enjoy knowing something that someone else can't quite figure out. Getting over on "experts" like the ones at Motortrend, is all that much sweeter.

Couldn't resist .........Not really........the 1M is the new little brother on the block and it's your time to shine. The E9X ///M3 is nearing the end of it's life cycle. There have been many and I mean many test and documented articles on it's performance. Adding another one with this BS would yield nothing. The ///M3 already has it's place in the ranks. Well, BHP to weight ratio and the 1M is clearly worst off. I would take the 458 and LFA any day and wouldnt say no to any of the others for that matter. Except for the Lotus though, which is a piece of junk.

Definitely proud of the bulldog we call the 1M....considering value and HP....think it did just fine and I appreciate MT using it in the comparo....add meth, tune, other performance hardware and if would have finished in the middle of the pack. Add the new 1M performance stripes and maybe a top 3 finish

Besides, drag racing is so "middle America" anyway. This car is a road course warrior.

It's by far the most affordable of the bunch. Heck even the Mustang was the LS model which is $55k before dealer jacks another $10-20k on it.

Fun too watch but meaningless. It does make me smile when I drive by the Lotus dealership and think how I almost bought one of those boat achors!
