It's been a busy week! Basically got the car last Monday, and me and a buddy have been working on it all week... Also installed the M3 steering rack, 4 wheel alignment, and added some other parts to the car. Here's where the car sits now
As for the shop, tbh, there were goods and then some bads. Overall, the work was good, but if I were to refer them for another 1M conversion, I wouldn't. So one case that I stumbled upon, was installing my rear wheel housing. It didn't fit because the housing is supposed to sit on the edge. The problem is, there was no edge for the housing to sit on. Seems like it was covered up because they had to extend the inner wheel well. I wish I caught that earlier, but it's too late now. I had my ways of modifying the housing to make it fit. I still have a couple more things to do... I guess the modding is just never ending, huh? I placed an order for a new exhaust, got some spacers for the front, and just getting some preventative maintenance done (WP, Blast, Gaskets). Also started crunching numbers on converting the entire rear to a M3 one. I sourced a whole rear for a very reasonable price, but now it's just labor, and getting a custom driveshaft made. If I'm not mistaken, the 1M driveshaft does not bolt up to the N54 transmission because it's meant for a N55 transmission? Will be taking some more photos soon! |

Daaaaamn Daniel...back at it again with the fresh 1M conversion. Ride looks viscous. Love it when a plan comes together. Is the cost of this project less than that of buying a 1M?

thanks Walter! Another cruise will be coming up soon, still working on a route . And in my books, this is cheaper than buying a 1M, and I guess more satisfying? Haha |

Some pictures from this morning's cars and coffee... Two 1M clones, and a fresh LBB M2! We got together, and we were able to do a nice comparison between the two.

So I recently swapped out my wheel hubs to more narrow ones (Thanks to the hub thread from 1addicts!). I was easily able to collect all the parts, and I didn't spend a fortune. Luckily, I had access to the shop and tools, and I was able to do it with a fellow mechanic and myself. Job took about 3 hours, and it was well worth it. I couldn't put my new wheel set on because the rears were sticking out 10mm.
Onto the pictures... Calipers, rotors out. I didn't have to take out the parking brake. Thank god for the air gun. It would've been a huge PITA without it! Used this puller to get the hub out + push the axleshaft off. When pulling the hub out be careful not to damage the ABS sensor! Once again, thank you air gun!!! Here's a comparison. You can clearly see the e9x hub is shorter than the stock hub. I actually re-used my current wheel bearings, as it was in good condition + I ordered the wrong bearings New hub is in! Didn't take a final picture, but I used the BMWP 324x22 rotors from the 328i/330i. Now for the wheel pictures. Here's a before: Here's after the new hub (10mm inward): Here's the new set! Shoutout to Sk8fe !!!:\ 265s and 295s tucked in nicely |
