Smile Thanks BMW: 325d is coming in september

Wohoo, good news from my dealer:

There will be a 325d with 2,5l inline six and 197hp available in september 2006 (at least on the german market.)

This is exactly what I (and many others I think ) have been waiting for.

Going to order in September, can't wait!

Why? Is there a tax issue with the 330d in Germany? If not, I can't really see the point of a 325d.

around next spring...shhh. New sulphur level standards go into effect around the end of this year, then there will be a transition phase in the diesel supply, then we are going to see some diesels here.

No tax issue. The point is my budget.

It will be a company car with many gadgets and 330d is way too expensive!

But 320d is a 4 cyl. so every step between is very welcome. 325d maybe also be too pricey.

We will see...

RichP, I am hoping you have good information -- I have been dying to buy a BMW diesel in the states. 3 liter diesel please... Mercedes is bringing their new BLUETEC diesel technology and new V6 diesel this fall, and putting it in several new models. I would hope that BMW would like to compete with Mercedes in the US. Its a way to build very loyal customers (my dad has bought E class mercedes every decade since 1970).

The brother of one of my best friends has collected his 330dA(ut)Touring 4 weeks ago, coming from a E46 320d.

Difference is between heaven(330)and hell(320d E46)

325d would be Earth then

I hope that they bring this one to the UK.

The 320d was consistently the best selling E46, but I'll bet that there are a lot of people (myself included) that would have pushed the budget a couple of k for a 325d, more for the smooth 6cylinder engine than the power hike.

The problem at the moment is the 5k gap from the 320d to 330d. Which would you go for, a 320d with toys or a poverty spec 330d?

I just hope that if it does come here they don't use it as an excuse to push the price of the 330d up.

On the contrary, I believe they have realised the 330d is too expensive. I discovered yesterday that as of March 1 all Sport & Luxury models would be getting satnav as standard. When I ordered my Sport in January, it was a €3000 option, but fortunately, as my car will be built after the March 1 cut-off date, I will be getting the satnav 'free'. Prices have increased by €400, but this is effectively a €2600 price cut.

BMW's Diesel engine technology has really come of age with new releases of various engine sizes and capacities.

I suppose they need to make money on all the massive R&D costs. It is a win win situation for BMW and customers.

Luxe and Sport model with Nav for only 400 Euros would be only in France or Belgium for example.
In Germany, the rules are always the same: No pack, only individual list of options added on basis model is possible.

So i don't think we will se a 330d (basis model) with Nav in Germany.

Otherwise a 325d with about 3 kE off compared with a 330d would be perfect...

Anyway too late, my E91 320d will be delivered in 3 WE...
And in Belgium, a 325 d have no interest since with his actual spec. the taxes will be the same than a 330d (2,5 kE for registration and about 600 euros/years for road taxes).

Can't wait until september because of special condition in my case (diplomatic purchase)

But i am not sure that the 325d will be a good deal. Look at the price of a 520d-525d-530d. there is still a big gap from 520d to 525d.

We should expect the same gap to purchase a 325d, don'T you think?

6 cyl will be always much more expensive than a 4, (especially with a diesel engine, look at the price of a single piezo-injector for a common-rail injection system...)

I think the price of a 325d will be much closer to a 330d than the 320d (or may be BMW will remove a lot of equipment from a 325d compared to a 330d?)

When they brought out the e39 525d, nobody was interested (at least in France). I think you're either sensible and/or on a budget, in which case you get the 320d, or else you want to indulge your passion and/or have spare cash, in which case you get the 330d (or 335d shortly).

Thats my concern too! It clearly will be closer to 330d.

But if I can save € 3.000 compared to 330d, I will be happy!

At least the 325d will allow a lot of people who want to control their Budget to drive a 6 cyl with somes extra instead of going with a "basic" 330d.....
But i don't expect to find a "cheap" 6cyl BMW...

You should be able to remap it to produce about 490Nm no problem. I have been quoted €400 to have my 330d remapped to 275hp/600Nm once it's broken in.
