DEEP Dish Rims (Black) / How much can I get for my original rims?

Hey everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any pics/names of Deep dish black rims for our 135's. (any and all pics are welcome though...even non black)

I also want to sell my stock rims (pictured). Do you know if anyone would be interested in buying stock rims? And how much I can expect to get for them?

What are the best deep dish rims for our cars that can be fitted with the stock tires?

Expect 500 dollars for the stock wheels without tires

The wheels you are looking for are the VMR vb3.

@vladr: It depends on how much you want, or are willing, to spend.

I say DPE, Vorsteiner, etc, etc...as you colors are custom and there are options will all of them for things like gloss black, satin black, flat black and so on. Take a look at my wheels:

or you could PM "randomquickness" as he is the resident DPE fanboi! (sorry randomquickness), I think he has had two or three sets of them already on his 1er....all of them black!

BTW what was your method of searching for these types of rims. Not really "why did you settle on theses in particular", but how did you search for them?

Thanks

What I basically did was look at everything being offered by rim manufacturers on the forum like here:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216413

and then go to the manufacturers website to see if they offer offsets that fit OR custom offsets (which are made specific to your vehicle).

I had a feeling that was the case as I don't see many 135s with true deep dish rims. This might sound really stupid but I know next to nothing about rims...what does offset mean? In a nut shell. What I'm trying to figure out is why can certain rims fit and some can't? (besides size of course).

Thanks

How much were yours? If you dont mind me asking? What's the offset on those bad boys? Do you have any rubbing issues ever?

Thanks

A wheel is gonna have a lip on the front or back or both no matter what. I don't see how it's a bad design. The poor design was BMW when they gave our cars these offsets.

I seriously think our offsets are so bad because BMW just used 3 series drivetrain parts as much as possible on our cars. Then when the design was complete they had to custom make high offset wheels for our cars to make it all work.

Vladr, to get a nice deep dish you need a low or negative offset instead of a high positive like we have. Or you could just have a really wide wheel, which also won't work on our cars. That will be one nice thing about the 1M.

The DPE's in the current post and my wheels have about the biggest lips I've seen, which is like 4" max. My Porsche has a 6+ inch lip in the rear, I luv deep dish wheels myself.

true they look really great on our cars since they are so rare. i just wonder what the lowest possible offset can be so that the car still handles well....

Vladr, low offsets on our cars do not hurt the handling, they cause the wheels to rub the fenders. If you went with a wide body like the 1M will, then the fenders will handle wide wheels and low offsets. On our cars generally as you go lower than the 40s then you get rubbing but it also depends on the width of the wheel.

Ok. Lets say you keep the stock wheel on there and get a <40 offset....

I basically want a rim with a decent sized lip on it...Maybe 3-4 inches in the back and 1-2 inches in the front. Know of any BTW?

PS: Thanks for the great info!

I got 500 bucks for my stock rims. 2 were in great condition, just some brake dust engrained pretty bad in the rim (fixable, but not by me). The other 2 had a bit of pothole-rash. No bends, and the rash on one of them isn't noticeable until like less than three feet away. I washed and waxed them nicely and sold them on craigs list. The guy that bought them bought they were brand new because of how shiny they were (I corrected him and pointed out the couple of rash spots but he still said it was well worth it). Meanwhile, nobody wanted to pay that price for them on this board. I'd try ebay and craigslist. If yours are in similar condition, expect to get a similar amount. If they're in better condition, you can get more. Brand new they're quite expensive.

Vladr, the main wheels that "fit" our car and have lips the size you asked for are custom made wheels like Work, DPE, HRE, etc. They will be expensive. A great less expensive option that come in custom offsets are a few of the Forgestars (I really like the F14 two piece lip version also).
http://www.**********s.com/Forgestar...9-90-19-10.htm

Where you'll find tons more options if you don't mind an aggressive fit wheel is just search for E46 BMW wheels (but not E46 M versions). **********s has a good wheel listing and I think I remember Vivid having a real good one. The E46 website is also good source, they sale tons of used wheels there. That's indirectly where my wheels came from, they were made for an E46. If you like my wheels, you can find TE37 reps that are much cheaper than the real things.

When you search that way some good options are Dforce LTW or Empowers if they are still made. Linea Corsa should have something, etc. Good luck. Here are a few choices.

1.5" lip front + 3.5" lip rear. estimated. lots of fender modification.

If you dont go with a step lip it will give the illusion that you have more lip than you really have.
