VMR Wheel V710 - easy to get curb rash? solution?

I just had VMR V710 since Dec 10.

Now my left rear wheel had 2 curb rash on it.

My rear is V710 18x9.5 ET45 and 245/35R18 tire.

That's what EAS suggested.

When I got the wheel, the tire looks stretched, which makes it easier to hit the curb with the wheel lip instead of the sidewall of the tire.

My 261M wheel with 2 year of driving NEVER had a curb rash.

So what is my solution here?

1) replace V710 18x9.5 to 18X8.5 and put 245/35R18 on it? Will it be the perfect fit?

2) put 255/35R18 at the back? is this right tire for 9.5 width wheel? If not, what is the perfect fit?

3) EAS gave me ET45 instead of ET50 because ET50 is out of stock. Now the wheel/tire is sticking out more. And I dont want to roll the fender.
what is the best size tire on ET45 without rubbering?

Thanks for all the comments in advance.

Well, the fact is you can just as easily scuff the OEM rims with stock tires so even if you could put 255s on your wheels it won't protect the rims. That said, I wouldn't have accepted 9.5"s with a 45 et. There's no easy way to put the right size tire on it so the rim will be always look a bit more 'out there'.

The only real solution is to drive more carefully.

If you're considering getting replacement wheels, just get the same ones with the right offset and go with 255s. It won't stop curb rash, but they will look and perform a tiny bit better.

You have a DRIVERS CAR...enjoy it...drive it. My solution...PAY ATTENTION!

Potholes aside...Sounds like operator error. Maybe practice some parallel parking too.

245 would be the recommended size for a 9.5 +45 on your vehicle. To be honest, it will be tough to avoid curbing your rims regardless of tire width. If you happen to hit the curb at the perfect angle, wheel lips can be easily damaged. Having a slightly wider tire does give you an upper hand but unfortunately its only to a certain point.

If you would like, we do have 9.5 +50's in stock we can send your way if you are looking to grab another set. With these, you can go up to a 255/35/18 safely without any rubbing issues at stock height.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any further questions.

What he said. OP sounds like he is a bit careless. My friend had his V710s on for less than a week before he rashed them hard doing a careless (and slightly inebriated) parallel park job. Point is, if you want flawless wheels, always be on the lookout for road hazards.

I exercise extreme caution when navigating sharp/blind turns and parking near a curb. The only thing a wider tire is gonna save you from is VERY slow rub against a curb when parking. We're talking minimum 275 on that 9.5" before the tire shoulder starts protruding further than the wheel lip.

Just take your time parking and play it safe by leaving a reasonable gap between curb and your vehicle. I figure an extra 6" - 10" is still less street protrusion than a Hummer H2 or full size truck.

That size tire and wheel combo should have fit fine. My Volk G2s after spacers are 18x9 et 43 rear and I'm running a 255 tire. I'm most likely lower than you (a little over 2 inches lower than a stock 135i) and I've had no issues (no rubbing either) besides one small curb avoiding an accident in a parking lot. Stay off the curbs.

Thanks everyone's inputs.

I knew it was my mistake and I'll try to park farther away from the curb now.

So the 245 with 9.5 will create a stretch look. How about 255?

The reason why I ask is I love the look at my front with is 225 on 8.5. It's not stretch at all.

Is that any disadvantage with a stretch tire?

I'm going to track in may, will stretch create any problems?

Thanks

Depends on the amount of stretch. A 245 on a 9.5 is fairly conservative and a little stretched but I'd honestly not stretch any tire on track.

Some places, parking that far away from the curb gets you a ticket.

probably more of a concern in europe (small cars, narrow roads). I've never had an issue with leaving some curb gap.

6-10" is OK. In NYC you get a ticket if you are more than a foot away.

So is it safe to use these tires on the track or not?

probably less safe. On a x9.5 I'd run at least a 255 or 265
