I predict that it isn't going to be a huge success, particularly as it's getting released just as gas prices are depressed across-the-board.

Exactly...And when they do not move those wonderful yet overly priced sedans, they'll blame it on the US driver still not wanting diesel.

Just bring over the 1D already. What is the problem?!? Where is the bottleneck? There or here?

From what I understand, the bottleneck is here. BMW is once burned, twice shy after the 4-cyl 318ti cratered, so they are very reluctant to release another 4-cyl BMW. (Even though the 4-cyl turbodiesels are apparently flying off the VW dealers' lots.) Plus, to get the engine approverd by the US Gov't and CARB is very expensive, so for the first diesel, they only wanted to bring over one engine, and that engine had to work with the X5, which more or less ruled out a 4-cyl.

Oh, and BMW is now offering an additional $4500 discount for the 335d and the X5 xdrive-35d until the end of August - to get them to move, and to help buyers qualify for the Cash for Clunkers program.

The 335d still would've been out of my price range even with this credit, but at least now it makes a bit more sense versus a comparably equipped 335i. Oh well.

Thus my intense interest in the new 2010 Golf TDI...Low $20s....\\

If the freek'in 1D was here and comparably priced I'd be seriously considering it, but we are not even being given the option...

Heck, I might even give those Mahindra Diesel pickup trucks a try.,.,,

Yeah, we're in the same boat. I hate VW/Audi being the only game in town for a reasonably-priced diesel sedan, wagon, and light SUV, but when we go to replace my wife's sedan in a few years, I'll take the risk on VW reliability for the practicality and fuel economy of one of their diesels if BMW doesn't step up to the plate with some diesels of their own. (Assuming we all aren't mandated by the EPA and CARB to buy only plastic cars with electric motors by that point.)

Sorry for ressing an old thread.

How much did you have to modify the exhaust? What size did you run? Does the Mitsu turbo have the same flange as the original one?

Hey dude, I'm really interested in modifying my 120d e87 N47.

Can you share with us the part do we have to change before the remap?
