Refrigerant is refrigerant. I have an evap leak and charge using vac pump and manifold with r134a can 2-4x a year. If it's just a little low on pressure one of those quick charge cans and a disposable gauge will work fine, it's just not a long term solution and it needs to be evacuated and charged properly the next time. Just double and triple check that it doesn't have stop leak in it.

I have chosen to pay $100 a year to recharge the thing and can do it for 16 years or more before the break even point of replacing this evaporator. Don't see the point from a monetary perspective. Car will likely be long out of my ownership by then.

My HVAC or ACC has been 100% in operation since 7/11, 8+years! This summer temperatures reached 100+ degrees, the worst weather I have ever experienced, but the ACC continued to do its job.
It wouldn't surprise me if it did malfunction due to a bad valve or something minor, but even then, it has done a great job! |

Yep. And I believe it as I've worked in and around the dash and know how cramped everything is. It's a really messed up design/packaging.
