What an incredible video...did you notice how long the driver keeps it in first gear pulling out into traffic...normally I'm throwing into second about 1/2 way thru the turn...not so here.
Great driver...great car. This is a still pulled out of the video. Thank you AdvEvo! |

Ok. Fine. I hated that hatch front end and I hated the fact that we won't get the fully tuned N53.
But now I am in love with this car. Despite all its shortcomings, I know there won't be anything close to this car in that price range. And above all, seeing it in motion with so little disguise just did it for me. Now I want it. Damn you BMW! |

One other thing, alledgedly it was the BOD's BMW who recc. the switch in base engines...assuming we stepped from N52 2.8 to the N53....why, then would it be dumbed down if the move was to increase sport factor? I'm not trying to put you on the spot...I've heard the same N53 substitution and it doesn't make sense to me to replace a detuned engine with another detuned engine...what's that? |

I totally noticed that Brook. This car can really get up and go man. The only reason I would keep my current car in first that long is if I REALLY needed to get out of a jam b/c torque down low is non-existent. I just fell in love with the car all over again too. Spin nailed it, shortcomings and all I'm looking at my next car.

This is such a revolutionary car that takes the brand back to it's original ethos...all the more stunning when you compare it to the rest of the line that's slowly acquired middle-age spread over the years. Yeah, it's a flawed looker...coupe roofline grafted onto a hatch body- the front is a bit too pug-faced - but to me, it's blemishes and shortcomings make it all the more desirable and unique. |

I think you need to take a closer look at the video. You actually hear the BMW when its pulling off from a stop at :47- :52 seconds into the video and it sounds like your average everyday BMW. That wicked deep guttural exhaust note you hear immediately after that from :54-1:04 on the Nürburgring is coming from the race car directly in front of the BMW...you do get a quick glance of it, looks like maybe an older Porsche.

I don't think you're correct at all. Go be pedantic on another thread. Seems like you troll with dis-info. |

The Porsche you think you hear is only in a few seconds of the video. I've watched you troll thru threads starting little squabbles. Aren't you the same guy who thinks a Volkswagen EOS is a great car? Yeah, that's you. Get a life. And find another website...like VW. |

You're just pissed because I'm right, and you're too proud to admit you're wrong. What do you think, the Porsche was sitting still or someting? The rest of the video was normal everyday BMW sound, nothing special.

In any case, frankly I can't buy the 1 at the launch anyway, My current car is "only" 4 years old, and I make it a principal to own a car for at least 6 years. (I have to watch my spending, especially now a baby is coming) So as long as they drop a 260HP N53 on the 1 within a year or two, I'll be a happy monkey. |

Hell yeah man. Thats what caught my attention. I heard a race car first and then when the 1 took off I heard the typical beautiful bmw sounds. I just loved everything about it, even how the car moved and took off.

Specifics on the N53.
The BMW N53 will be BMW's latest and most modern straight-6 engine, which will debut 2007 in the facelifted 5 series (E60/E61). It is an improvement on the N52 Naturally Aspirated (NA) engine mainly since it has gasoline direct injection technology and can burn stratified. However, it will not contain Valvetronic due to space limitations in the cylinder head. Specific vehicle models, engine sizes or other details are still sketchy at best. The 3.0 liter has improved power to 268hp as well as improved torque. The N53 will be BMW's 14th generation production straight six engine. Unfortunately the N53 engine series will not be sold in Australian and North American models due to the high sulphur content of the fuel available in these markets. Interestingly, unlike previous engine generations such as the M50 and the M52 which had the 'TU' designation for the updated versions, the N53 was not called 'N52TU' as it more approprietely should have been named as it is an update of the previous N52 engines and not a new generation of engine. Engine - N53B30 Displacement - 3.0 L Power - (2996 ccm/182.187 in³) 200 kW (272 hp) @ 6700rpm Torque - 320 N·m (xxx ft·lbf) @ 2750rpm Redline - 7000rpm Year - 2007? |

So is there no chance that the 1 coupe will end up with the TT engine found in the 335i?
It would be a little rocket if one was offered--which would probably be a great reason for me to jump to a 1 series instead of the 3, which keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger... Don't get me wrong--I love my E92--its the best car I have ever had, hands down. But there are a lot of people besides myself over on E90post.com that think a return to BMW's roots (a small, light, nimble car) is exactly what some are looking for. I just don't understand why I keep reading all this stuff about more detuning for the engines available in the 1 coupe... |

Just a guess but I think the base coupe will be a the 230 or 265hp NA 3.0. However, seems like all of the photos we're looking at show an intercooler behind the front intake so I'm guessing there will be a 135....please tell me it won't come with iDrive.

For NA I'm going to say that we'll have a 135i(N54 obviously) and 128i w/ the updated N52 found in the U.S. spec 3,5,28i. A diesel version might be on the cards, but I think BMW will wait it out to see how the first batch of diesel variants fare in the market(which they'll probably do well- I think at least). However, I find it unfortunate that BMW absolutely refuses to import 4 cylinder models here as they'd do very well, I've never known the majority of Americans to be overwhelmingly concerned with the cylinder count under the hood of their car, but I'm sure it's a different standard cars are measured by in the premium segment.
