Alignment DIY - why not?

So, due to the fact that no local shops will align "out of spec" I started watching videos on aligning a car myself. TBH, it seems pretty straightforward. And some of the measurement tools are now pretty cheap

Toe measurement seems pretty simple to get with a string also.

So...anyone do their own alignments? Am I missing something?

I also found this system that looks kinda cool.

Anyone have any experience with the quicktrick system?

Thx!

Still researching....wonder if one of these would be easily adaptable to an E82...

I'm guessing you have searched, but it's hard to believe you can't find a shop willing to do something out of spec. Well, shop could be the wrong word, I know at least around here there are people with the right equipment in their own garages and with a great local reputation. I wouldn't call it an underground thing, but you do have to be around car people and meets and such to know about them.

Where do the racers go?

Anyhow, DIY should be totally do-able, just not always easy. Keeping the weight of the car on the tires, while allowing those tires to move a little bit, and so on. The cost of the stuff might be as much or more than a lifetime's worth of alignments somewhere else, if you can find that "somewhere else".

Thx. I know there are shops in Seattle that will do it but on this side of the water where I am there is a dearth of all things "abnormal" for cars, for some reason.
