Redline D4 ATF tranny oil change question
Hi,
Sorry for the dumb question, but I couldn't figure out how to pour this stuff into the fill hole. I bought a pump from Kargen that suppose to fit a standard 1quart bottle. Well, the Redline bottle doesn't have the same opening (it's smaller) as an engine oil bottle and the pump won't fit. Anyone here who done the change? And how do you pour the oil in? Thank god I tried the pump first before I crack open the drain plug, or else I'm SOL!! Thanks a million |

hand pumping ATF into the tranny...
Hello,
I have not changed the tranny fluid on my MT 135i sport. But I did do it twice on my old e36 323i. I also used Redline's D4 ATF - great stuff!! What I did was I bought a hand pump that looked like a big metal syrenge. (picture a grease gun type - with a large hand pull plunger) I attached a long (1meter long, 10mm Diameter) hose at the end... and sucked up some AFT and then squirted it into the tranny. Works like a charm. I live in Germany and the cheap (disposable) plastic style pumps that attached to the one liter oil bottles are quite rare over here. I had to buy a HD metal suction pump (from ATU) - to fill my tranny. I think it will come in quite handy when I need to suck out my old diff fluid when the time comes around. ) Worse case for you... you might just go out and buy a one litter bottle of ATF - that would work with your (bought) pump and use it that way. Just dump out the fluid and use that container to "hold" your Redline D4 ATF. Good Luck, David |

What fluid is in the MT's to begin with. I'm not ready to change but will be doing the CDV remove and replace and should I let too much run out I'll need to replace a bit.
I've only seen the mega 5L MT available for about $140 for a complete change. |

Don't mean to hijack the thread - but is the D4 ATF the correct fluid, or should we use the D6 ATF? Anyone know what BMW wants for the MT transmission?

Acording to RealOEM it says bmw MTF-LT-3 fluid for the manual 6 speed tranny in the 135i. There should be a decall on the tranny itself too. From what I gather this stuff is close to $180 for a five liter jug!
MTF-LT-3 BMW P/N 83 22 7 533 818 I am not sure which RedLine fluid would be simular. ? Redline D4-ATF or D6-ATF ??? bye, David |
