So how good is a 128 w snow tires... THIS GOOD !!
Long Island Blizzard !!! 12-18 inches.. 3ft to 4ft drifts..
Drove to work on the Wantagh Pkwy at 6:45 this morning barely plowed, single groove, cars stuck in exit ramps all over.. just me and the guy in front of me. Put on Dunlop sp winter sports...... Un freakin' believable !!! the Traction control light barel blinked once or twice... smooth sailing !! see pic...

The only thing that stops me on the Dunlops is if the street hasn't been plowed and the snow's too deep. Saw lots of fools in their all seasons going nowhere.

On days like that I bring out my 2006 Tacoma. It is 4x4, siped and studded snow tires, locking diff and DSC. If it gets really bad I have chains but never had to use the chains. On a powder day I am not going to be stranded from skiing.

I tell all my friends,..Get dedicated SNOWS!
Had Blizzaks on the wifes mini cooper, and the thing was a beast in the snow. Since then,..I have a winter set of them on my Tacoma and her new GTI. Def worth the investment if you live in snowy areas.

Yep I took the 1er out the day after the blizzard too and I had to drive through several unplowed sections of road. These dunlops are great!

After annoucing my victory in finding an UHP all season tire that handled "well" in the snow last year, I had a rude awakening when those same tires with reduced tread led to some white knuckle driving experiences a few weeks ago. As a result I finally caved and bought myself snow tires+wheels (215/45R17 Michelin X-Ice Xi2's all around)
The difference blew my mind. I will never drive in winter again without snows. I've gotta admit, it sure does feel good to pass people in their "superior" snow vehicles simply because I have the proper set of wheels. I can't wait till it snows again! |
