any viable reason to get 19" RFTs?
I saw on tirerack that bridgestone makes 19" RFTs. could one argue that there would be any good reason to get these? I'm thinking one reason is that if I need to order a non-RFT tire and it is out of stock, the cost premium of the RFT would be offset by getting a rental car (the 1 is my only driver). unless its advisable to drive with 1 unmatching wheel/tire while I wait?
and by the way I don't plan on tracking the car often so performance isn't a high priority. I just need everyday drivability and dependability. Last edited by dcho; 01-04-2011 at 08:21 AM.. |

the only type of tire damage that will strand you, will strand you with regular tires AND with runflats, and that's a bad tear or sidewall damage
I cant think of any reason anyone would want runflats, unless your extremely lazy, and do not want to use a mobility kit for a nail, not that I've ever had a nail go flat instantly either

oh and 19"s because I want to get flamed for being a poser . well I'm looking at some DPEs that will look good in that size. as stated above I don't plan on doing much or any track driving so performance isn't of the highest priority. (sorry )

19's and RFTs? Ouch.
You must be a glutton for punshment because that car will ride like it has welded axels.... my nuts hurt just thinking about it. I'd also be willing to bet that the RFTs will more than likely bend the lips on your DPEs in the first few thousand miles. The OEM runflats ruined the wheels on my Z4. Sidewalls are so stiff that they just transferred the force directly to the wheels. |

I'm very happy with my Toyo T1r's. They also come in the rare 255/30/19 size.

The hard side walled 18" RFTs make hitting a pot hole a real threat to 18" wheels, much less for 19" wheels. Plus the higher dental bills from loose fillings.
