Reasonable price for walnut she値l blasting

2009 135i N54 E82 AT 168k

Please advise what a reasonable price to have this service completed. I called three different places and was quoted $650, $850 and 3k from Leith BMW in Raleigh. I attempted to challenge the 3K price however they stuck to their quote.

Thank you,
b

Look for a reputable Indy shop that does it. I've seen prices average around $350-$400.

I called back again this morning & was quoted 3k again. I challenged Leith BMW one more time and they stood their ground on the price. I asked to talk directly to the person offering the quote & they got it down to around $1300-$1400.

I will have to find a local Indy.

I've done it myself. Not a terrible job but time consuming. $650 at a shop seems about right. The dealer's price is insane. They clearly don't want the job.

Anybody ever try Sea Foam? You spray it into the throttle as the engine runs. I'm not sure it would work but others report success getting carbon out of old engines with it. Project Farm is a youtube website that used it on an old pickup and reported good results. Wouldn't cost much to try it.

I have used it several times in my 2010 Colorado. Seems like it worked well, but my engine did not have a TB build up problem like the I-5/I-4 engines did in this model. Colorado forums are full of folks who felt improvement from use of Seafoam into Throttle Body.

I used to use that stuff all the time when I was restoring old cars. It definitely made a difference in idle quality and such in the older engines.

You want to talk about smoking up the neighborhood!

Black Forest Industries pulled their cape from their underwear and got the Hero Award and quoted me $565. I will save and have them take care of the service.

It's probably a bit of a drive, but we have a shop in Spartanburg called Euro-Sports that is run by a guy named Albert. Pretty much anyone with a BMW or Mercedes within a couple hours of his shop takes their cars to him for simple diagnostic stuff to the more complex work.

He is fair, honest, and has some of the best pricing around. Been in business forever and really knows his stuff!
