FYI - There is a special introductory price on these HARTGE tunes now for $1299 from $1599. Turners website reflects the new price.

Hi,
Booked my new M135i in for this Hartge ECU mod with Birds here in the UK last week (March 2013). The unit is in the post already, due to be fitted in mid-April I think. Currently shopping around for a good modified insurance policy to cover the extra 15% BHP at the moment. Any advice welcomed on that by the way, although my choices seem to be restricted to going via specialist brokers like: Keith Michaels, Sky Insurance and Adrian Flux. Will post details when the mod happens. And yes, it's not cheap: £2,650 including VAT. Already thinking about adding their Quafe LSD as well if the standard open diff can't cope, but when I asked about that it sounded like they'd have to build one into a replacement drivetrain and carry out a swap which put me off a bit. Currently still running the car in with only 2,500 miles on the clock. Madgambler 325i (E30) => Alpina B3.33 (E46) => Alpina B3s (E46) => 130i M Sport (E87) => Cayman S (987c) => Carrera S (997) => M135i (F21) Last edited by Madgambler; 04-04-2013 at 06:53 AM.. |

No extra hardware. Nothing but an additional grey ECU and the sensor cables AFAIK.
I had some cash in the pot left over when I bought the car much cheaper than the list price. Also I wanted to soften the blow of trading in my old 911 Madgambler 325i (E30) => Alpina B3.33 (E46) => Alpina B3s (E46) => 130i M Sport (E87) => Cayman S (987c) => Carrera S (997) => M135i (F21) Last edited by Madgambler; 04-04-2013 at 06:54 AM.. |

Hence, unless you are prepared to leave your car there for a week and a bit for your diff unit to be removed and sent away for the machining work/Quaife install (Birds claim a 5 working day turn around for this) and then returned to their workshop to be re-installed into your car, then what they described is the only option.

£2,500+ for what I can only guess, is a fancy JB unit with the Hartge name tax... Fair play to those that have taken the plunge, but I think that price is a complete joke tbh..
Hartge and AC's prices are just laughable sometimes.. Be interesting to see what gains are made though. Madgambler - are you going to get a before and after rolling road done? Also, 2500 miles and still running it in?!?!?! Last edited by Vtec Abuser; 04-07-2013 at 09:08 AM.. |

Will have it installed with a valet switch if I can, just in case we find out it screws up any standard ECU software updates.
I'll ask Birds for a before and after printout for sure. 3,000 miles now and have started to blast it daily in Sport mode with the paddles. Briefly tried Sport+ on my commute but too much traffic really to enjoy the brutality. Noticed that in 'S' mode the gearbox won't select 8th at normal UK motorway speeds, presumably because the revs don't warrant it. Average speed creeping up to over 41mph and mpg rising to 30+ which is about where I expected it to be to start with. Hoping for 35 as it loosens up over the next 3k miles. Pity the tank is small though, so the range is only 300 - 350. But the ride is very smooth.

Personally, I'd get a baseline run done yourself local to you before the car goes to Birds, and then take it back to the same lacal place after and get an 'after' run done As you are in Surrey, you are close enough to one of the best palces to go. Thanks for tip. Already got the heads up from Birds about that.
Going to try JKM in Portsmouth for the 'before' report, as they're closer to home. May try your suggestion for the 'after' if they're not to my liking.

Using different RR's will not give you the comparison as each RR will be different in set-up etc. Getting a baseline on one and using another for the after is a meanignless comparison. Only way is to get the before and after done on the same RR with the same operator as close in time between runs as possible.
